Last week's throw-back-Thursday I posted about the Badwater Double.
This week it's a notch up further to the Badwater 146 Solo/ Self-contained.
The solo involves trying to get from Badwater Basin to the summit of Mount Whitney (146 miles) carrying all your water and supplies, usually done with a cart or baby jogger. The 146 Solo means you can pick up supplies along the way as long as you carry them yourself.
The Solo/Self-contained on the other hand means you have to carry everything you will need from start to finish, including all your water, equipment and garbage. You can drop the cart at Lone Pine and continue with a backpack. Oh yeah, after you get to the summit you still have another 11 miles down to get back to the trailhead, and maybe another 13 miles after that to get back to Lone Pine...
In 2014 I attempted it and got to the summit but had to get some ice along the way so I couldn't claim to have done it solo/ self- contained.
In 2016 I tried again and got to the summit in 49hrs 42mins alone and self-contained.
I have never heard of anyone doing it faster.
Some people said it wasn't possible and still don't believe it was done.
I know better...
