Living in the city is beautiful but can be additionally toxic on an emotional, environmental, and social level. Agree or Agree?
Here are some practices to help clear the old muddy mind and assist in keeping your zen during rush hour and/or staying calm when that someone is trying their best to to bring you down.
1. A few minutes of quiet time, meditation, listening to breath and just BEING instead of DOING. Try to start and end your day with a few minutes of "doing nothing" time.
2. Taking on an attitude of gratitude. No matter how nasty stuff gets, there is always at least one thing we can raise our hands up to and be greatful for.
3. Sleep! We all need between 7-9 hours. There is so much research being done and has been done around the importance of sleep and how that relates to anxiety, depression, performance and generally being an overall calmer more balanced human being. If you want to explore further how important sleep is and why.

You "get to" ; not, "you got to" - @missjullyblack declared this past Saturday evening @hughsroomlive . So lucky was I to see this awesome woman perform, a few feet away from me, literally. She touched my soul, not only because her talent is so innate and authentic, not only because she exudes strength, confidence, and pride, but because she shared part of her own soul with the story of her mother, whom she lost to dementia. She told us of visits to the Memory Lab to have the "your mother has dementia" conversation - yup, been there, done that. She talked of the stigma associated with the label - yup - watched my own mother's isolation grow. She talked about the documentary movie - Alive Inside (@ALifeInside) that demonstrated the positive power of music on memory and how music melts away dementia - yup, saw it. She talked about the loss, and the pain of watching your mother leave you before she is actually gone - yup, live it every day. And then @missjullyblack took off her black stiletto heels and got up on the table in front of her - she belted out her voice and she didn't stop there - she literally walked the entire Hugh's Room venue, from one table top to the next, stepping over peoples' heads as she placed one foot in the centre of the next table, and then the next, her feet never touching the floor until she returned to the stage - why - BECAUSE SHE CAN; because her brain and her body permit her to, and she knows how fortunate she is; because she is a powerful woman who is unstoppable.
Exercise and Fitness are not about what you "got to do", they are about what you " get to do". Be grateful for your ability to go to class. Thank your body by MOVING and it will thank you back, and remember - when you're battling traffic or public transportation to get to the studio, or managing your bulging schedule that is stuffed with life's daily tasks - remember you GET TO workout. Be GRATEFUL to MOVE. Be UNSTOPPABLE.

While having had some spare time to Netflix and chill the past year, I thought to just binge myself silly with one of those mindless cookie-cutter reality-TV shows.
Never would I have imagined being so invested in the lives of six random strangers living in a shared house with no script whatsoever. What made it even more real for me was how much I could personally identify with the twists and turns they each encounter in their paths as they work and strive toward their individual goals, dreams and ambitions while navigating together through the seemingly infinite maze we call life. It was nothing short of an emotional roller coaster ride.

Through their lens, I have learnt a little about living in the land of the rising sun and gained a greater insight into its unique culture.
