The latissimus dorsi attaches from the iliac crest up to the humerus (medial lip of the bicipital groove). 👍👍

To stretch a muscle, we simply make it longer by bringing one attachment away from the other. 👏🏼👏🏼
.
We can do this by simply visualizing the attachments and picturing how to bring them farther apart. Simple, right? 😊😊
.
And/or we can simply do the opposite of the muscle’s joint actions because joint actions are concentric contraction functions of the muscle, which are the shortening functions. And stretching is making the muscle longer. As I said, simple, right? 👍😊👍

Guys, I WAS NOT feeling a workout yesterday. I taught barre and a workshop, but I didn’t show up for myself last night when I should have. •••I rested, and there is some merit there as well. ••• But today, I went and taught class for everyone else, put little man down for a nap, and then showed up for me. ••• When working out is your job, it’s easy to let your schedule dictate your own fitness journey. ••• It has made all the difference for me take the time to workout how I WANT for MY BODY, not how I’m paid to for everyone else’s (though I will never stop loving barre...bc duh, it’s barre)

How to squat better - mobility assessment

Improve your squat and deadlift with this simple drill you can do at home.
The wall facing squat is a great tool for assessing and exercising the squat pattern.
Here's how.
1. Stand facing a wall with your nose and toes against it. Your feet should be slightly wider than shoulder width with your feet angled out very slightly.
2. Squat down as far as possible with your arms hanging between your legs or place them above your head on the wall. With each rep, you should be able to drop a little farther.
3. Focus on moving your butt downward, as if you are about to sit on a chair. Keep your weight on your heels, not your toes.
4. How far can you get down? Do you have a balance issue? .
.
For those who can't drop their hips below their knees (mobility issue) after performing the wall squat practice it as often as possible (daily ideally) for two weeks. Also focus on the front squat drills and single-leg squat for quadriceps development. .
.
The wall squat is great for anyone.
It'll really hone your squat and deadlift technique, regardless of your skeletal structure or stature.

Following from yesterday’s QL post. Here a cool partner stretch. This stretch can be done without a partner too.. Interesting facts about the quadratus lumborum: Known as the ‘hip hiker’ muscle’ because it is the muscle that raises the hip. Pain from the quadratus lumborum can be paralyzing. It brings a sharp stabbing knife like pain to the lower back area.

Low back pain is a persistent and costly problem and they society is estimated that approximately 70 to 80% of Americans who have back pain and significant back pain and some time in their life.
.
Low back pain is a complex condition it’s clear that lower back pain problems is an multidimensional involving anatomy, biomechanics psychological, social and nutritional factors.

The QL has 3 distinct fiber orientations

This is why it’s difficult to get a full stretch of the QL. several stretches are needed to fully release this muscle.

Do you let yourself shake?

That right, I said shake.

When you are nervous, when you are scared, when you are jittery, when you are angry?
I'm talking about that involuntary shaking that comes when your adrenaline pumps.

Yesterday I had the awarness that I hold myself back from shaking all the time because I'm afraid it makes me look weak or vulnerable or out of control. Im afraid that I will be somehow be communicating that I am not 'together', 'worthy' or 'powerful'. So I hold my shakes in. I clamp down. Clench my jaw and fists so the shakes wont betray me and reveal just how vulnerable I feel.

But in a group meditation by @megganwatterson of the Divine Feminie Oracle cards yesterday in Brooklyn, I had a vision that has completely changed the way I think about shaking.

In my vision, there was an impala/deer type animal running from the lion and finally got out of harms way. The moment it was safe, the impala started to shake off the trama from the chase. There was a good two minutes of shaking and then it just walked off, happy.

I heard from my higher self say, "You need to let yourself shake. In the moment, in meditation, whenever you can. Shaking is not weakness. Shaking is power. Shaking is how the body processes trauma and PTSD." Whoa.

I've been asking my Higher Self for a while what lingering traumas need to be healed and the answer came last night.... Just shake and all will be healed.

Even as I write this I can feel my jaw tightening as I hold back the urge to shake.

So, to get me out of this habit, today I'm putting on every song I know that has to do with shaking and having a good shake!

Dr. Chanti here 👩🏼‍⚕️ 🌈 Therapeutic posture of the day: Warrior I - an excellent posture for athletes to practice prevent injuries: - Strengthens not only anterior and posterior chain leg muscles but also the hip abductors and external rotators (work that booty!!)
- Stretches the psoas muscle (that one that is oh so tight from sitting all day!)
- Strengthens the shoulder and back
- Increases cardio and respiratory resistance

Patient: "I've been to physio before and they just use this red light on me and ask me to exercise past the pain.

What you do is very different from what i have experienced!" And this ROM improvement with pain reduction happened within 45 min of treatment. "

In fact, the ROM improvement happened within 15min of treatment and the other 30min was just addressing the sharp end internal rotation pain due to poor joint movement mechanics!
