#PilatesForYoga challenge with @bodyharmonics

Day 7 - Side lift > Side bend

This exercise is great for the #lateralsystem and it's definitely more effective after a good warm-up than in a back alley following a buffet lunch at the Mandarin restaurant (please don't ask). I'm so happy I did this challenge and my body is finally feeling stronger and more back to normal after my 2-week movement hiatus since #MarchMatness. I've been walking every day, working out at home, at the studio and anywhere I need when I'm feeling stiff.

So, I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to CRUSH some goals. I’m tired of just feeling ok about my body and not LOVING my body.  I know that it's not all about the visual, it's about how you feel. But the truth is, that going off my meal plan and drinking that third glass of wine often don’t feel that great.  I want to show myself what I’m made of and make a commitment to myself and my health.

Sooo, these are the last few days steps. My step count has been pretty crap the last few months, I normally aim for 12,000 a day, I’ve rarely hit that lately. Did the tourist thing Thursday & Friday & today I’ve been on a long doggy beach walk. Need to start Monday with a Fitbit Challenge I reckon.

My father is a #mastergardener but unfortunately I have not been #blessed with his #talent - still, paying for #herbs at the #grocery store is insanely #expensive and the little bit we can get there always expires very quickly. So, @heb had all of these on sale for about the same price as the cut herbs in the #produce section, so I figured #whynot - and decided to give #gardening another try. Today was all about planning for the week! To do list, meal plan, setting up my planner. Getting prepared on the weekend makes life so much easier during the week.

Being able to be a push up has been a goal for a long time. After some wise advice from my dear friend @strongandbendy about setting goals for the gym to give each workout a purpose, push-ups and pull-ups went high on the list.
.
It can be a drag to literally drag yourself to the gym just to sweat if there's not a bigger goal you're trying to achieve.
.
But when there's something to work towards, it helps motivate me not only to get there but gives a framework for the programming (aka what I do) while I'm there.
.
And Rome wasn't built in a day - so it will certainly take more than two tries to build strength. But honestly, getting stronger every day just means showing up on the regular.
.
And building upper body strength has given me a new swagger that I’m not mad about 💪🏻

There are so many benefits to exercise, you don’t need any fancy equipment to start.....you just need to start! It will become a habit & one that you will love. That feeling of becoming strong, having more energy, reducing stress and anxiety and being able keep up & set good habits for your children. Move more & sit less. In my happy place 💕💕 I danced throughout my childhood, I came back to a tap and ballet barre class this year as part of increasing my activity for weight loss. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made so far on my journey. I’ve been struggling the last 4 weeks with not being able to dance while at class d/t my injury and it’s showing on the scale. I feel like time is ticking down to one year in the program and to my dance recital. I’m really hoping to be back up and dancing soon... as it really does make my soul happy.

Count down to Memorial Day tip number #36 (37,38,39,40 below 😬😂 sorry y’all). A common question I get is actually about my hair...”why is it so thick”, or, “why do you have hair like a princess 👑?” I don’t know how much I agree with the last one, but hey a questions a question and it’s usually followed with “do you take any supplements?”
Truth is I think you don’t need supplements if you eat a healthy well rounded diet, and you exercise. Exercise is GREAT for cell regeneration, and eating WHOLE unprocessed foods is often enough. My day to day nutrition usually includes whole eggs, spinach, blackberries, Brazil nuts, avocado, lots of other veggies, minimal grains and varied sources of (yes) animal proteins. I find that my hair, skin and nails look the best when I get enough of these in me.
I will say that I’m kind of a candy whore from time to time, and pho? Pho-ck yeah!! Gotta live a little too...but for the next month and some change, try switching to Whole Foods and see how much better you feel and how much glossier your locks will look. 🍒🥑🍍🥦. #40 Foam Roll

We opened the year with Guilt and Chanel no 5k, honoring the fierce Emily Gilmore and supporting She's the First. Next was the indomitable Paris Geller in the the Geller 20.20k, helping women get their names on a ballot with She Should Run. Next, Babette Ran a 5k!, honoring Babette and Pierpont the Gnome, giving the opportunity to have girls intern with WriteGirl and get a great start to their futures. Finally, we closed the school year with Buckle Up, I’m Patty 10k. This Miss Patty event supported refugees by providing baby bed kits to mothers in need with Carry the Future.
This year has been all about empowered women empowering women. We are standing up for women and girls around the world. This year's challenge medal answers Lorelai's question about the anvils, while also representing what we are all about - smashing the patriarchy.
This medal will be available starting May 11, 2018 when we launch our Finals Event! We will open up all our CRC medals, including our 2016/17 and 2017/18 season medals. You only need to register for at least two of the 2017/18 events to qualify for the Anvil Challenge. If you register for all four, plus the challenge, you will receive an awesome charm bracelet with our thanks!

When it comes to exercise, we all want to get results and avoid getting injured. This can only be accomplished when exercises are performed correctly. With that being said, I want to focus on the stair stepper. Stairs are an awesome way to switch up cardio and I love to use them as a way to warm up for leg day. However, I wanted to show a few common form mistakes that happen a lot! I used to make these mistakes ALL THE TIME when I first started using this machine so if you are guilty, don’t worry, been there done that.
LEFT is correct form, RIGHT is incorrect form. .

It’s tempting to want to go fast on the stairs to increase heart rate and feel like you’re getting a good workout, but if you’re making any of these form mistakes, you’re truly hurting your lower back, tweaking your wrists, activating zero part of your glutes and while you may get a good sweat in, over time this could lead to injury. Give a lower level with good form a try. Trust me, it gets your heart rate up equally as high 💪🏼
