Exercise and the brain
-
Exercise helps memory and thinking through both direct and indirect means. The benefits of exercise come directly from its ability to reduce insulin resistance, reduce inflammation, and stimulate the release of growth factors—chemicals in the brain that affect the health of brain cells, the growth of new blood vessels in the brain, and even the abundance and survival of new brain cells.

Indirectly, exercise improves mood and sleep, and reduces stress and anxiety. Problems in these areas frequently cause or contribute to cognitive impairment.

Many studies have suggested that the parts of the brain that control thinking and memory (the prefrontal cortex and medial temporal cortex) have greater volume in people who exercise versus people who don’t. “Even more exciting is the finding that engaging in a program of regular exercise of moderate intensity over six months or a year is associated with an increase in the volume of selected brain regions,” says Dr. Scott McGinnis, a neurologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an instructor
in neurology at Harvard Medical school.

1️⃣ Prone Lift Offs- Try and leave the rest of the body relaxed while only raising the arms. Squeeze the fists for extra motor output.
2️⃣ Bottoms-Up Kettlebell Carry (arm bent)- easier than arm extended and able to better control.
3️⃣ Bottoms-Up Kettlebell Carry (arm extended)- much harder! Progress to this with light weight after mastering number 2. Keep the rib cage down!

Banded WKD #vibes 🔥.

I had an incredible Leg workout that I did the other night and I shot quite a few videos so that I could share it with you guys! So don’t mind the repeato outfit lol!! But I had a lot of extra energy that night so I went above and beyond what @freakmaker1 had prescribed! 😍.

Sometimes you have extra energy during your workouts and I find it to be a great opportunity to really push yourself, and try new exercises, and get outside your comfort zone!!.
.
These exercises can also be done from your home, and a banded work outs can be done from the comfort of wherever you are and are super great for travel!.
.
Try this:
✅ Banded donkey kicks 20x4 sets with a pulse of a stretched out leg for 10 reps!.
✅ Side stepping banded walls for a minute!.
.
You can do these as a superset or you can use them in between your super sets to really burn out your glutes!.

Toys shoved aside. Some inspiration playing from my girl @eat.play.pray and my kidless workout (thanks to @mbh23) is complete for today. As a parent, I believe that my actions regarding health are vital for the development of my children. Putting my health first will in fact run down the leash. It’s not always easy, but it’s so important.

My exercise routine is an area that has completely fallen off in the last 6 months and I started week 2 on Thursday. I’m super thankful for @jerryoleson for the support and accountability. Thanks JO!

Throughout the past 3 years, one thing remains the same. In order to make changes in your life, even small, having an army around you for support is essential. Essential! Maybe your army is only a few, but find an army. Find people that support your crazy ideas, crazy dreams, crazy thoughts. Those are the people you want around.

With that said, I’m ramping up and adding some more people to my army starting October 1st for another round of healthy eats, healthy drinks, healthy sleeps, healthy thinks, and healthy moves. If you’re ready to make some changes, one of the first would be to look around and see who is in your army! Maybe you would like to join us!

A picture is worth a 1,000 words... this picture says a lot because a lot is going on during this exercise 🚨John is incorporating thoracic rotation by connecting his Left lat to his Right glute & his Right shoulder to his Left hip via a deep connection of muscle groups (ie; myofascial slings) ➡️ left glute is on fire and the deep core is engaged as the left lat rows and right arm punches connecting with the obliques to help rotate the ribcage 🌪 and thus the myofascial slings are being engaged and connecting John’s upper body with his lower body and replicating the way our muscles connect our body in life outside of the gym. Connecting the body in the right way leads to better movement in day to day life, better movement during exercise, and overall results in less day to day aches and pains 🚫 Today was all about getting John’s body in the correct position to automatically activate the correct muscles at the correct time so his joints didn’t do the muscles job 🎯 aka no more joint pain ✅ double tap ❤️to support real functional fitness 💯 shout out to @functionalpatterns for arming us with the best tools to help people 😎

Have you guys ever tried low impact movement? Animal flow, quadrepadel movement, rolling, crawling, etc. If you haven't you definitely need to. Why? It's a great workout and it's fun. It develops organic movement patterns and different motor solutions. "Real" movement adaptability happens when you just go for it, improv. See what you can really come up with without rehearsing a bunch.

🤜🏼Don’t get me wrong, if your ultimate goal is to compete or goal is Sarcoplasmic Hypertrophy (looking to be there muscle bigger), hopping on a bench, laying down and pumping out those tri’s is all good. But, if your an athlete, it might not be the best way to go. I mean, beach season is coming to an end...-

⚽️The better approach would be to include an exercise like this one, which incorporates your core as well as strengthening your limbs. We ALWAYS want to make sure or Core is contracted and included in our exercises in the gym.-

💪🏼At the end of the day, we train in the gym to increase our performance on the field, and yeah I know, also look good in the mirror & for the tings 😉, but our main goal is TRANSFER TO SPORT!-

1️⃣Get into a plank position, but, have the hands come together with a 👊🏼 grip shaping a triangle with your arms.
2️⃣Now make sure to drive into the balls of your feet and have your feet Dorsi flexed.
3️⃣Glutes are turned 🔛.
4️⃣Core is contracted, locked in and turned 🔛. No arch in the lower back.
5️⃣Once your PILLAR is stable, breathe in and drive up through the center of your fists, to lift yourself up, EXHALE.
6️⃣Keep your core stable and don’t allow much movement in the core.
7️⃣Slowly lower back down to your elbows.
8️⃣Keep neck neutral by looking down the whole time.-
