Crispy scallion pancakes with chili oil and vinegar, with spelt from @les_grains_du_val and apf from @meuneriemilanaise.
If I were in Toronto today, this is what I would make for my sister @hchengers.
She turns 27 today, and it always feels strange to not be with her on her birthday. As children, we were alternately allies and frenemies, but birthdays always meant no holds barred displays of love - months of planning an elaborate affair with no shortage of decorations and ice cream cakes.
We were and are different in so many ways, but the fundamental things still endure: we both stay up too late, we laugh at our own terrible jokes, and we would do anything for the other person, as she did when she drove to Montreal with her fiancé and helped me move into my new apartment. /
Hailey, I hope your day is full of scallion pancakes and all of the dim sum we loved as kids and still order as adults. I hope it involves laughing until your sides hurt and singing along to your favourite Michael Jackson songs in the car. I’m so excited for your year ahead - graduation and getting married (!!!) - and despite the distance, wish you the happiest of birthdays today ❤️
