Before I trained legs today I did lots of mobility work to open my hips and ankles so that I could squat better, and it really did help 👌🏼 Before your next workout, whatever it is, warm up thoroughly and include some mobility exercises !

🚨 MASSTHETIC MECHANICS - Romanian Deadlift (RDL) 🚨 .
.

Introduced to the world around 1990 by Romanian weighlifter, Nicu Vlad and coach Jim Schmitz, the RDL is used by strength and powerlifters as an accessory lift to further isolate the hamstrings and glutes. .
.
But in the world of hypertrophy, the RDL is a superior movement to the standard deadlift for complete muscle building. .
.
While you can generally move heavier loads with a standard deadlift, one thing it lacks is the control of the eccentric or negative of the movement. The hamstrings being fast twitch muscle fibers, they respond better to slow controlled eccentrics. In addition, the RDL is going to load the hamstrings in a fully stretched position, eliciting a huge anabolic growth response. .
.
Make sure we performing these that all your movement is coming at the hips, think driving back and forward, the bar will move naturally as you do this. Slow controlled eccentrics with a slight pause at the bottom, then drive hips forward to initiate the concentric. At the top, stop just short of lockout, with your hips still slightly behind your shoulders, coming all the way up will take all the tension off the hamstrings. (There is no reason to continue to drive hips forward, no additional load is on the glutes. Basically just clinching your ass cheeks together - I'm doing that right now as I sit here and type this) .
.
If you do want to add extra tension to the glutes at the top, attach a resistance band to something behind you and step into it across your weight, this way the band will be adding tension from behind you when you contract the glutes at the top. .
.
Getting good at these will not only develop your glutes and hamstrings, but will make you much more efficient at performing the "big lifts" for back and legs. Don't neglect them! .

Along with a few other things this is something I'll always do on my lower body days to get myself ready for my workouts.

It will help get your hips warm and also activate your glutes and hamstrings so they're ready for battle.

If I had to choose just one exercise for side delts that I would do for the rest of my life, this would be it... .
.
The Lying Side Delt Raise With Wrist Cuffs. .
.
While the dumbbell side lateral is a great exercise, this variation has a few reasons why it's a superior choice. .
.
1. Stability - too much many turn the dumbbell lateral into a trap movement by initiating with a shrug first (just look around next time you're at the gym). The reason for this can be because we are trying to use to much weight that we have to use the bigger, stronger traps or becuae or lack of scapular stability. By lying on the bench, you can drive your upper back and scapula hard into the bench, eliminating any and all movement of the traps. .
.
2. Exercise Profile - dumbbells work against gravity, so in a side lateral, they are only providing resistance for about half the movement, with zero coming when your hands are at the bottom. By sliding the bench into the cable apparatus, you can manipulate the resistance profile however you like. Cables will provide the greatest resistance when the handle is at a 90 degree angle to your arm, so you can see here the most resistance is when my hands are at the bottom, then it gradually gets easier as I raise up. .
.
3. Takes arms out of movement - by using the cuffs you take your forearms out of the movement. This makes it easier to focus your intent on pulling out, instead of up, which should always be a focus. .
.
One cue to focus on when setting this up is to place the cables in direct line with your arms. This allows all the resistance to be placed through your side delts and keeps the joints out of the exercise. .
.
If you are struggling to build your side delts, add this exercise into your training 2-3 times a week and watch those shoulders blow up in just a few weeks. .
.

It's pretty simple... Your ability to build muscle comes down to how effectively you can take that muscle from a lengthened state, to its fully shortened position, a complete contraction, while maintaining tension on that muscle throughout the entire range, then progressively increasing load over time. .

Flashback to that time there was a Christmas tree on my lower back! .
.
In my opinion, a well developed and defined back is the true sign of the combination of hard work, consistency, and intelligent training & programming. .
.
You can walk into any gym or along any beach and see tons of guys with great chests, or a great set of arms. .
.
And visit any track or cycling event and you'll see some of the most developed legs on the planet. .
.
But a MASSTHETIC back? .
.
That is a rare site... .
.
Maybe becuae it's out of site, out of mind. .
.
So because we can't see it, and its not right in front of our eyes all day that guys don't see the importance in developing it? .
.
I think its something else... .
.
There are tons of muscles that make up the back, plus all our rowing and pulling movements involve the arms, so items very difficult to isolate and really feel the back muscles working. .
.
And we know when things are difficult people avoid doing them. .
.
So instead of actually learning how to properly engage the muscles in the back, guys would rather load up a bar and use full body momentum to move it, or just rely on their biceps to do all the pulling. .
.
I'm not that guy... .
.

One of the things that so many people don't do and has a massive impact on performance and also durability is a solid warm up.

I always spend 10-15 minutes doing a warm up making sure my joints and muscles are ready to perform.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here is a quick look at one movement I perform to get myself ready before a session.

Simple banded pull aparts great for getting the shoulders warm and moving along with some upper back.
