Your macros can vary depending on your fitness goals. When you’re in a bulking phase, obviously your macros are gonna be higher than your macros if you were cutting. Regardless of which goal you are striving for, make sure you are hitting the proper macros for it.

Here’s what you need to know:

4 Calories Per Gram of Protein
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4 Calories Per Gram of Carbs
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
9 Calories Per Gram of Fat.

With knowing those numbers, you can determine your proper macros.

Here’s an example. Let’s say there’s a 200 pound man. His bulking calories are 3,400 (BW x 16-18), and his fat loss calories are 2,600 (BW x 12-14). Above are the macros he should hit for both fat loss and muscle gain. Here’s where those numbers came from

When it comes to protein, you need to strive for anywhere between 0.8-1.2g per pound of bodyweight. An easy way to measure is to simply hit 1g per pound. Hence for both phases, that’s why the amount of protein he eats is 200g. For fat, a good number to strive for is around 30% of your calories, hence the fat macors are 85g for fat loss and 110g for muscle gain. Lastly, for carbs you take the remaining calories and divide it by 4, since there’s 4 calories in 1 gram of carbs, hence the carb numbers for both.
