Thank you author @annelamott 💞Of the many adjectives I can use to describe myself, this one took me a while to “own” - I am a writer. Among the many ways I express myself in the world, the written word is the gateway to my Soul’s deepest expressions.
For several months, sentences & themes have been churning up in my mind to be written down. In dreams. While driving. While creating art. While writings other things, thoughts will veer, sometimes to dark places. Clearly, I’m resisting writing what is calling to be written and shared.
As a coach, I’d ask a client some probative questions to get to the heart of the resistance and help shed the fear. As soon as I paused and internally stepped aside for a moment, I knew where the resistance was rooted.
I didn’t want to write about the “dark stuff” - the painful experiences and abusive people of the past. I didn’t want to trigger an opening of the healed places from the underlying wounds. Shouldn’t they stay in the past?
But you know what? Those experiences & those people & how I navigated through all of it, while raising my three sweeties, has a lot to do with how I evolved to be the gentle, loving, compassionate & ever-evolving woman I am today. So much of the most powerful #thingsiknowtobetrue are rooted in pain. I think that is true for many of us on the planet. But the pain doesn’t get to lead the way any longer. It is what we choose to do with the experiences, how we decide to grow through the experiences, and how we show up in services to others despite the experiences, that helps give life purpose & meaning. It feels like these words might need to see the light of day to help others shine a light on their path forward. ✨
So I’ll write.
Whether the words turn into an essay or a book for all, or a journal just for me, is yet to be seen. But answering the call is happening. Ready or not, the words are asking to be written. I choose to trust that expressing them and giving them context & form from my hard-earned, healed place & perspective is an important part of my path.
Just like your story is yours.
I’d love to hear it & be in service to your growth - connect with me any time. Stay tuned. Love, Gayle
