#MalaysiaAirlines provides numerous domestic and international flights and is a member of Oneworld, one of the largest airline alliances. The airline serves 50 destinations worldwide with 300 flights daily. The company has been awarded numerous awards throughout their 71 year history, including ‘The World’s 5-Star Airline’ by Skytrax in 2009, 2012, and 2013 and ‘Asia’s Leading Airline’ by the World Travel Awards in 2010,2011 and 2013.
Malaysia Airlines has experienced several rebranding stages since its first commercial flight in 1947. It was initially known as ‘Malayan Airways Limited’ before becoming to ‘Malaysian Airways’ during the formation of the Federation of Malaysia in 1963. It was again renamed to ‘Malaysia Singapore Airlines’ (MSA) following the independence of Singapore in 1966. Six years later, both #Singapore and #Malaysia agreed to divide the assets and to establish two separate national airlines- Malaysian Airlines System or MAS (branded as Malaysia Airlines) and Singapore Airlines.
Recently, MAS has experienced two major incidents in 2014 (the loss of MH370 and the crash of MH17 over Ukraine) has greatly damaged its image. As a result, on December 31, 2014, the #airline was delisted from Main Market of Bursa Saham, a Malaysian exchange holding company following huge financial loss. One year later, Malaysia Airlines returned under a new name and brand- Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB).
