Wythenshawe Town A-A WDCFC- 16/11/2019 “This isn’t an ordinary On the Loan is it?” To start with, we were going to go to Hyde United, but they don’t offer a student price. In fact, they explicitly say on their website they don’t offer one. So we went to Wythenshawe Town, to complete the highly sought after Wythy Double, having been to Amateurs last week. Well, we say we went, we were half an hour late, missing the first goal. So far, so s**t. After seeing Scholes last weekend I was hoping for maybe a Nicky Butt, maybe even one of the Neville’s, but what I received was far better. A £1.50 pie. Yeah, you read that right, a £1.50 pie which has been affectionately labelled as ‘Meat’ by the Wythy Town bar staff. It was decent you know, the addition of Aldi ketchup only heightened the pork/beef/dog flavour. Having paid £3 entry- take that Hyde- this was on course to being extremely high in the On the Loan league table. Town found themselves down to ten men at half-time but soon after the break went 2-0 up, thanks to the West Didsbury keeper punching a corner into his own net. Entertainment indeed. Sadly, on the 75th minute, a horrific injury to Tom Wilson, entering the fray as a substitute just nine minutes earlier, saw the game abandoned with an ambulance arriving on the pitch. We want to wish Tom all the best in his recovery and hope we can see him back playing Ericstan Park as soon as possible. Nonetheless, as professionals we have to rate this experience, although there are discussions about returning- preferably on time- to give Wythy Town a fairer chance. All this suggests that they’re going to get a low score. Oh but my dear reader, on the contrary, Wythy Town was delightful. £3 ticket to a game of actually not appalling quality, with a good atmosphere, cheap pints and a £1.50 pie. And not only was all this excellent value, but there was a programme. Alex loves a programme, it’s a prerequisite for any football match he attends, and to have one at this level is truly wonderful.
8.5/10- we will back, but what a performance given we were there for less than an hour.
