Happy Winter Solstice! Has anyone else been feeling the last several weeks that all the signs in your life are pointing toward hibernation and going inward for reflection and rest? It’s because our bodies’ internal rhythms naturally sync with each season. As mammals, we’re wired for it. Our bodies and souls have recognized the unseen shifts of seasons since the beginning of our existence. What we do need help remembering is 1) to allow our bodies to adapt to each season and 2) how to adapt in order to welcome in the power and wisdom each season brings. Any resistance to the change of season will manifest internally and lash out in various ways.
For the last week, I fully embraced hibernation, wiping my schedule clear - a few engagements, reluctantly, and the rest, unabashedly. The reason I wholeheartedly embraced entering hibernation is because I recently invited in an illness for the first time in 2 years that I’ve been an herbalist (because I was going with The Flow; not My Flow - another story for another time). Besides the lessons of humility, forgiveness, self love, and believing in my body’s innate healing abilities, this sickness gave me another reason to not ignore the call to remove myself from the bustle - especially from anything negative - and rest and go within.
I invite you to do the same: Let go of the lists and expectations and boisterous whirl of *doing* that society and media have encouraged in us for generations. (And work through any guilt if you feel it creeping in!) Gift yourself quiet, gentle inner peace and solitude today on Winter Solstice and this weekend. Do what you must and for the rest, abide within during this sacred solstice.
