Regrann from @akinyemilaw - Earlier today with my good people @tvcconnect.
Discussing #NBC's ban on #falzthebahdguy's #ThisIsNigeria song and video.
We talked about censoring creative industry professionals like Falz.
I believe that Falz used his Art to chronicle Nigeria's present realities. Talks of banning the song cos of a phrase "Everybody be criminal" is too pedestrian. No justification for such narrow-mindedness. If this ban is left unchallenged, we might as well ban the reportage of issues he highlighted...... every other day, the headlines scream at us.
The right to freedom of thought, and expression, is fundamental to our liberty as humans, and democracy. While I acknowledge that no freedom is absolute, I do not believe that Falz has exceeded the bounds of reason. He should be allowed to express himself, chronicle the times, earn a living, and communicate freely with his audience and community.
Thankfully, Falz opined that he would approach the courts if necessary.
In conclusion, our creatives, live and work daily to help define/elevate our civilization as a people. If ideas are suppressed, our evolution as a people will not flourish.
