We were having a lovely time at the park until 6 year old Cecilia fell off the monkey bars onto her back, scraping it up pretty badly. I freaked out and made plans to take her to the emergency room, but as Nathan drove us there he quietly, gently assured this postpartum mama bear that Cecilia was fine. (She was happily chattering in the backseat of the minivan about the McDonald’s burger, fries, and ice cream on her lap—a rare treat!) I called a nurse line and talked it through. I was worried she might have some internal injury or a hairline fracture on a rib—who knows? And this was on the Sunday evening of Labor Day weekend—I couldn’t just swing her in to the urgent care or pediatrician’s office.
Well, the nurse also thought she was fine, so we turned around and headed home. As Pa and Ma Ingalls always say in the Little House books, “All’s well that that ends well!” (But thankfully, we don’t have to face prairie fires or blizzards!)(Also, I admire the heck out of Ma Ingalls’ sang froid.) It’s times like these when I’m sooo thankful for our daily practice of couple prayer! It truly is the glue that keeps us together, as @surprisedbymarriage say in their YouTube video on couple prayer. Or, God is the glue, and prayer together puts us in touch with Him. We could have easily had a fight during the conversations about whether to head to the ER or not. But starting the day off with a loving prayer time together seems to bathe the whole day in a balm of protection. And Cecilia is doing great! #coupleprayer #strongermarriage #nobrokenbones #justafleshwound #postpartum #familylife #littlehouseontheprairie #atleastlocustsdidnteatourlifesavings
