Rather than asking "what do you do?", we like to ask "what do you like to do?", "what makes you happy?". This journey has been our pursuit of happiness. Travelling makes us happy. For many, happiness is related to earning more and more money, acquiring more power. Many see their happiness in their future. In Pakistan, more than 60% of the population lives below the poverty line; about 17% live with less than 1$ a day. Many people here live in the now; here is where they find their happiness. Despite having so little they are as happy as anyone could be. They find happiness particularly in their family bonds and personal relationships.
Sometimes, we realized that happiness means to NOT understand, to just get lost. Personally, travelling as a woman in Pakistan hasn't been easy and understanding the role of women in Islamic society and local culture have been challenging. It has been difficult for me to keep my distance, to not become too emotionally involved, to not take things personally, to not judge, to keep my place as an outside observer. Yet, I couldn't be happier to be here! To travel is to live - happiness is to feel alive. Happiness is to find one's purpose. Happiness is to feel fulfilled - whether it is through a job, a hobby, a passion, a person. Happiness is to see the faces and hear the voices of our sister, your mum and your dad after returning from the mountains after some weeks... even if it is only on Skype ❤.
