Here at SSO, we are celebrating #ChildrensDay by bringing attention to the children who need our help. This nonprofit “storybook” resort provides free, dream vacations to critically ill children and their families – vacations that create happiness and hope when these families need it most.

Our school in Kangra, Pakistan is changing lives. Students who never went to school are now in classes with computers and tablets. They are understanding what technology is and how to use those skills in daily lives. Women are starting to see a life beyond kitchen and childbirth. They are staring to understand hygiene and women health, importance of staying clean and being required to wear uniforms, have short nails etc.

When Sonia was alive, she started this organization with a vision to educate girls. She wanted to ensure that they get their basic human right of not only being educated, but also being independent to earn, to stand up on their feet and take care of themselves and their families. Today, Sonia is not present with us physically but she will always be there in spirit. Every girl that has received education with the help of our organization’s funds is a Sonia - every girl they educate moving forward will be a Sonia.
Sonia wanted to leave this world knowing that she has made a difference, and she did.

We are proud to share some of our recent progress with all of you! The Sonia Shah school in Kangra, Pakistan, is now following the Cambridge curriculum. Cambridge qualifications are accepted by over 1500 institutions across 78 countries.

We have also added smart boards, computers, and kindles for learning purposes and to make our students in times with technology.
In addition, we have also certified one of our teachers in computer learnings and started regular class teachings via computers.

🤨A Gender Gap In Ballet, Seriously?⠀

In an article in @forbes, Kim Elsesser wrote that according to the @dancedataproject, “72% of ballet companies have a male artistic director. Those women who do get the title of artistic director earn only 68 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts. Only one woman made it onto DDP’s top ten list of the highest-paid artistic directors.”⠀
⠀
Young girls are estimated to outnumber boys 20-to-1 in ballet classes. At the leadership level, however, is where the gender gap begins. This is similar to the health and beauty industry, another one that femme folks are more socialized to. A shocking number of makeup companies are owned by parent companies who are owned by (you guessed it!) men.⠀

Although we know dance has no gender, young girls are encouraged to participate in activities like dance. The argument is not that “ballet is for women” - because it’s for everyone. The argument is that the leadership of any trade should match the majority of its employees and that all leaders should be paid equally. #wagegap #payinequality #ladybosarts ⠀
