Did you know that every year there is an Auckland Heritage Festival?
We stumbled across it in a tourist mag when we arrived back in the country, which was great timing!
It’s a fortnight of lots of free family friendly activities discovering the colourful characters and diverse cultures and communities who have shaped Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland). There are exhibitions, walks, talks and tours, a vintage market day and school holiday activities. There’s a huge range of events!
We attended quite a few. This photo is from the guided tour of the North Head military tunnels. The kids loved rambling over the volcanic cone and exploring the tunnels. And once we’d finished the tour we stopped for lunch at the Torpedo Bay Cafe (at the National Navy Museum). It has a nice wee playground for the kids and a magnificent view back to the Auckland CBD.
