Been wanting to try Yoogane for sometime ‘cause it always smells so good when we walk past, so I was naturally excited when I finally got to lunch there with @alan_travellingfoodies yesterday.
The Charcoal Fire Chicken Galbi still smells amazing as the staff cooked it at the in-built cooker at our table, but unfortunately, the wonderfully charred aroma didn’t translate to its taste. The dish tasted sweet and not as spicy as it looks. Perhaps to cater to the younger crowd which makes up most of the business.
I was highly suspicious of the Fried Chicken Wings when they came out in no time at all after we placed our orders for the Bulgogi and Garlic Butter flavours. They were dry and stale, heavily battered but not thoroughly cooked through, leaving a doughy aftertaste in your mouth. Felt like it was briefly reheated with Chef Mic(rowave) then hastily coated/dusted with the required flavourings. The bulgogi version albeit too sweet (again) was better than its counterpart. The sticky sauce gave the wings some moisture unlike the garlic butter ones which, in the end, we had to doused in whatever remnants of the galbi, kimchi juices and bulgogi sauce just to make it more palatable.
Will I come back again? Probably. But for other dishes like Naengmyeon instead of the above. The saving grace was the free flow kimchi which I looove! Thankfully it was more sour than usual so it gave my palate a good break from the predominantly sweet meal.
