Who we are is actually very simple and straight forward:
Latino: The Spanish translation of the word Latin. Latins referred originally to an Italic tribe in ancient central Italy. For example Romans. In other words people from Europe. We are NOT Latino/Latinx!
Hispanic: refers to people of ancient Roman Hispania, which roughly was comprised of the Iberian Peninsula, including the contemporary states of Spain, Portugal, Andorra, and the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. As in from Europe. We are NOT Hispanic!
So called "Latinos", "Mexicans", "Salvadorians", "Hispanics", "Nicaraguans", and any other colonial "Latin American" nationality of all the "Americas" are of "Native American" descent. Not maybe or we think or we ain't sure. WE ARE the indigenous people of the "Americas". We are the children of the survivors of a planed extermination that killed 95 percent of our people. We descend from civilizations that are older than the BIBLE, the Jews, China, the Egyptians, the Romans, ISLAM, the moors, and even civilizations in Europe.
Using the Classical Nahuatl word Nican Tlacatl for native or Nican Tlaca for natives to describe ourselves would be the first step in not allowing Europeans to define us. Nican Tlaca (Nican Tlacatl: singular) means "la gente natural de este tierra" so it is a classical Nahuatl word that our ancestors used that is synonymous to how macehualtzitzintin, macehualli, native, "indio", "indian", and indigenous are being used today. The concept of Nican Tlaca is already defined, conceptualized, and coveys the sense of use of the term in the Florentine codex, examples in: book 1, book 3, book 6, and more. The Literal translation, direct translation, or word-for-word translation of Nican Tlaca is "here people" but the Faithful translation, conveying the sense of the text translation, or Sense-for-sense translation is Natural people of this land (La gente natural de esta tierra); different ethnic groups have named themselves in a similar fashion.
NOT LA RAZA
