It’s that time of the week again: #homegrownvinylthursday as set uo by @doc_nornor and @jareds_wax
This week I’ve picked a hard rock/heavy metal band from Holland. Bodine was formed in the Hague in 1978 and I’m spinning their second album, which came out in 1982.
The third album by Hudson Ford is also the third album of their's I've reviewed for My Dads LPs. I've yet to revisit either of the two albums I reviewed and as World's Collide gets going I immediately feel this is record is also unlikely to be spun again any time soon. It's clever pop rock, but not quite as clever as say 10CC. It's tuneful, but the song-writing not a patch on Lennon or McCartney's. They're simply a good-ish band. Side 1 is moving along without much to report. When Love Is Overgrown is a slow song with some nice orchestration. As Hours Go By has a bossanova meets psychedelic vibe... but isn't as exciting as those words would suggest. Bootleg, a stomping funky number which is their best track so far. Midway it turns into a Queen track with multiple vocals. A lot of fun. Side 2 open with Jesus Said. It's a slow acoustic rock ballad. Utterly dismal. Day Without Love has a similar tempo and musical arrangements and is also similarly shite. With Petro Rock we've a high velocity rock n roll track, but there's little about it that elevates it from an average stomp. Mile High feels like an attempt at a glam track, but once again it's just not good enough. A rejected Bowie B-side. And we finish on Keep Me Rolling... just bleurgh.
Ex Strawb members I like this duo very 70s sound 7/10
LOW POINT. Jesus Said
