For YEARS I could not eat chocolate without severe abdominal pain and intestinal cramping, and horrible gas. I only learned recently that what I had been experiencing wast knew that Irritable Bowel Syndrome- IBS.
I had no idea it was a 'stress disorder' meaning, it is exacerbated by stress. I just knew that i was easily bloated by many foods and that chocolate seemed to rip my insides apart.
So i had resigned to the fact that chocolate and i were not meant to be.
Fast forward to this moment. I am sitting here 30 minutes after having drank (drunk?) a full chocolate morning shake and ZERO PAIN. ZERO BLOAT. ZERO IBS.
No pills. No diet changes (clearly- im eating chocolate...) I literally took a few minutes before eating to regulate my nervous system to power up my digestion.
Sounds too simple. But its how the body is wired.
When your stress response is activated- your digestion shuts down. Blood goes from your organs to your muscles, preparing for action.
up until this year i had NO IDEA how often i was in a stress response. I'm not talking full blown anxiety that's the extreme end. I am talking subtler forms. ANY state of dis-empowerment which emotionally is felt as negative emotion (including feeling inferior, competitive, comparing, numbness and disconnection) will activate a stress response.
But when you know how to regulate your nervous system successfully, you shift into your natural healing and digestive state.
So here I am, just sitting here feeling like i just pulled a magic trick. like -WHAT IS THIS LIFE?!!! I know exactly how and why. It's simple science. but the childlike feeling of wonder and awe never gets old every time i get to witness the miracle of human life at its best.
Have a beautiful weekend! Eat lots of chocolate! - regulate your nervous system first though. #lifechanger #wedontneedmoregas
