**BLOG POST- Intuitive Eating: The Basics** - Link in profile! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Intuitive eating is the way humans naturally, effortlessly eat from the moment they are born (barring the very rare exception of certain genetic/environmental conditions that may interfere with this inborn ability.)
It is normal, natural eating.
Intuitive eating is not a diet trend. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is not a weight loss plan. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is inherently weight-neutral, meaning the practicing of it does not aim for either weight loss or weight gain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are born compelled to seek nourishment (food) when hungry, and we effortlessly stop when full. When adequate food is available on-demand, our bodies possess a variety of biological mechanisms to help us achieve a balanced state of nourishment from the day we are born. Our bodies are born wise and know exactly how to eat appropriately to achieve our genetic design.
For most of us, this intuitive ability is interfered with somewhere along the way. We often lose touch with our internal signals because, throughout our lives, there is much emphasis put on conforming our bodies to unrealistic standards of shape and size, external rules, ideas, and beliefs about food and how we should eat, and moralistic judgments attached to our food choices and body size.
These messages often begin in childhood, which is why I'm so passionate about spreading this message to parents. I truly believe that one vital piece to improving the physical, mental and emotional health of the next generation is to support kids in listening to their bodies around food and maintaining their intuitive eating abilities. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
