We need to start putting more love and care into our youth, and we need to start in the public education system. Many inner city schools aren’t offering adequate support to this children, and these children are the future. We aren’t we nurturing them in the best way possible? I too at a point in my life, used school as a second home. Where I was able to eat an actual meal, and be away from stressors and inequities I faced at home. Children are coming from households with minimal education, high unemployment and crime rates, broken families, and inadequate housing due to systematic inequities that surpass anything they can actually overcome. These are our children, who many, don’t have access to mental health services. Why aren’t people highly upset about this? As a mother of two, I’m fucking pissed. Why isn’t this a priority? Why aren’t they tracking state funds and making sure they are used in appropriate ways? Why aren’t the most impoverished areas receiving the most support? Why aren’t there programs and health services put in places for the ones that need it the most? Why are we sitting back and watching black and brown lives die at the hands of our public education system? Why! If you are fighting the fight keep fighting because racism and systematic oppression has not stopped, it has only evolved.
