Jalen Hurts to Oklahoma. Man I gotta day I love this new transfer portal explosion. It’s basically free agency for college. Coaches offer scholarships, nothing compared to NFL contracts, but I’m sure they also offer promises etc. Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and now Jalen Hurts. Big shoes to fill for Hurts, but he’s proven that he is a more than capable starter. 26-2 during his time at Alabama, incredible. Yea he lost his job to Tua, a guy who is being projected to be a top 10 pick in next year’s draft, so I don’t think that’s a big knock on his game. His freshman year he threw for 2780 yards, 23 TDs. He’s more than capable as a dual threat, he’s actually better than most college running backs statistically. 954 yards rushing his freshman year with 13 TDs. If someone said that about a college running back I would be impressed, but we’re talking about a QB so damn. His numbers declined his sophomore year but he dropped from 9 picks to only 1 not for the entire season, this shows maturity to me.
We’ve seen the capabilities of Lincoln Riley. He had serious NFL interest for his ability to run an offense, and tailor it perfectly to his QB. I think he will be an amazing coach for Jalen, and further his development as a QB. Hurts was also able to put up these great numbers against SEC defenses, the toughest defense conference in my opinion. The knock on Oklahoma all year was that the Big12 defense isn’t all too good, which leads me to believe even more in the success that Jalen will have. Marquis Brown is gone, but he still has Lamb, Calcaterra, Sermon, etc. He has weapons, he’s in a system that tailors to his skill set, and he has a team that wants and believes in him. Austin Kendall has also been in the transfer news a lot, but he wasn’t granted his release. I’m sure it will be a competition, but ultimately Hurts will be the guy. Geez how great would an Oklahoma Alabama rematch be in the CFB Playoffs next year?! What do you guys think of Hurts?
