Thought I should share some of the Red Gold , Pilbara country Karijini National Park.
The seed heads are swaying in the breeze of the beautiful Spinifix Grass in a stunning landscape .
I just canโ€™t stop myself I have to get some birds in the post , a couple of timely Spinifix Pigeons cap the termite mounds that are over 6 ft high ( they generate their own air conditioning ) .

โ€œWhat is your zing?โ€ This was a question that someone asked me not too long ago while I was presenting on a panel discussion. .
โ€œWhat gets me up in the morning? If you had everything in your business underway and managed by others, what else would you be doing?โ€ .
My answer// Connecting with Indigenous communities. Being on country. And so, I got to thinking.... what else can I do? What else can I be doing in business and help inspire others to do? I created a charity. A charitable foundation that is formed with the mission to support Indigenous bush food commercialisation and foraging activities. With the incredible support of @ygap last year, The Plum Project @theplumproject was born!.
๐ŸŒฟ
Without the continued support, awareness and celebration EVERYDAY of our Indigenous culture we are at risk of losing this incredible heritage. Did you know that there used to be over 200 native dialects spoken?? Now there are under 20. It is scary! Meeting Traditional Owner Bruno Dann and his family, being on country, harvesting Kakadu Plum is one of the most humbling experiences to date. I am incredibly honoured to have been invited and be able to help share his story. These stories need to be cherished, told and help brought to the forefront of our daily life. They canโ€™t be lost or forgotten. .
Thirty three cents from every chocolate bar sold will go toward The Plum Project to help fund bush food projects, employment and community enrichment programs. .
Letโ€™s focus on making a change, creating impact and changing lives. Letโ€™s work together to celebrate culture and honour our traditional heritage EVERYDAY.๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟ there is a story in each ๐Ÿซ chocolate bar.

#TAFEtourism students were lucky to team up with another class (plus one of our tourism workplace trainees) and go out on country to the Nowanup Bush University recently. Noongar elder and recent winner of the community TAB community service award Eugene Eades explains bush tucker and bush medicine to the group.

Last week we held our final 'bush classroom' session in #Carnarvon for the year, which brought together the Year 10 mentors and the Year 6 students as part of our Transition to School program, sharing language and leadership.

Our aim is to create a two-way learning environment, led by community elders and making a smoother pathway for students to begin high school. ๐Ÿซ

Tell ya whoโ€™s a legend? Aunty Geraldine. We met up with her last week at Coomealla Health Aboriginal Corporation, to film her making her famous Gerry Cakes (not johnny cakes) and to chat about the history of gerry cakes, how she used to source her food for her family and the importance of diet to a healthy mind. We love ya Aunty Gerry! Thanks for having us Western NSW PHN and everyone that came for the barbie out the back of CHAC โค๏ธ

Last week we were lucky enough to go out on Barkindji Country with Damion and the legends from BMEET. We learnt a lot about how theyโ€™re blending modern science and ancient techniques to preserve their land, artifacts and heritage. We cooked up a barbie and were farewelled with a smoking ceremony to get us home safely. So beautiful and so special. Thank you to Western NSW PHN and Coomealla Health Aboriginal Corporation for teeing this up.

The Muli Muli Clean Up Country Project has just won a 2018 Premier's Award! The project was an initiative of the Muli Muli Ladies Club, whose members were concerned about the impact of a 50-year-old waste dumping site that had encroached on the traditional burial grounds of their ancestors. The NSW Environment Protection Authority, in collaboration with North East Waste, Muli Muli Local Aboriginal Land Council, the Ladies Club and Githabul Rangers, developed and implemented a community rubbish management plan. DPM facilitated the writing of a song called 'Looking Out For Country' with a group of kids from Woodenbong School, and made a music video in the community as part of the education component of the plan. Yey us, and everyone else involved with the project, for a fantastic win :) #mulimuli #woodenbong #lookingoutforcountry

The last four amazing and overwhelming days I've helped commission and train the community in the Port Stewart Water Supply that Arup, including Sam Koci, designed pro bono with the Centre for Appropriate Technology, Engineers Without Borders Australia and the Lama Lama community (Yingtingga Aboriginal Corporation) in far north Queensland. I've also been lucky enough to have been taught and shown the history, been welcomed to country and learnt about these incredible people, past and present, who have fought for their land and are now living on the country and taking care of it. Finally after over a decade this community will have a reliable source of water. It's been an amazing few days and I feel privileged to have been welcomed into this amazing land and mob, and it's really shown me that it's not just a water supply - this will now mean the community can focus on other things like their amazing ranger program. #ewb #engineering #water #oncountry

We have a commitment to delivering #OnCountry education programs in the #Pilbara region.

This is some of the lower school engagement class students at Tom Price Senior High School, keenly learning about the Pebble-Mound Mouse by re-creating their version of its habitat.
Interactive activities like this are always the most popular and develop the students teamwork and confidence.
Thank you to our supporters who partner with us and enable us to deliver quality programs.

Cooking up down by the Junction last week in Wentworth just outside Coomealla/Dareton. The Junction marks the spot where both the Murray and Darling Rivers meet. We had a beaut afternoon sharing stories, cooking some snags and havin a dip in the river. Jaharlyn our absolute legend of a project manager has absolutely killed it and made our two weeks a dream out here in Coomealla! He even bought down some roo! Building these relationships are what itโ€™s all about. Thanks to Western NSW PHN and Coomealla Health Aboriginal Centre

WHERE THE EAGLE ROAMS: out bush with The Coomie Crew last week shooting their music video all around the Coomealla/Dareton area. Thereโ€™s beautiful shots of the scrub, red dirt and the meeting of the Murray Darling rivers. This week weโ€™re out meeting community members and making our two short films! Big ups to our funders Western NSW PHN and Coomealla Aboriginal Health Corporation.

Kangaroo, you are an ancient resident of this country. Your soft grazing of native grasses helps them to rejuvenate. Your macropod paws encourage seeds to germinate. You are vital for this land. Kangaroo you were here long before any of us. We recognize and respect you. ๐Ÿ’•Have you hugged a tree lately? ๐ŸŒฒYes hug the tree, why not try it and imagine it receiving all your worries and recycling it through the earth. Then imagine that you are receiving all the strength and stability that the tree embodies.๐Ÿƒ
I also like to thank the tree (mentally or verbally) for nourishing the earth, and helping me to re ground myself. I also send beautiful positive energy to the tree as this is so beneficial to me, as giving out good energy affects both me and the awesome tree. ๐Ÿ’•

A short clip from yesterday arvo's #Waalitj #birdbanding #treeclimb! And while we're on #filmmaking... for those who didn't see tonight's fantastic @abcnews_au @abcgoldfieldsesperance coverage of #WarluwurruWeek2018, filmed by Rhiannon Stevens at #Matuwa a few weeks ago, the link is below (& in my bio). This #oncountry #eagle work couldn't happen without my main supporters the #GoldfieldsEnvironmentalManagementGroup (#GEMG) & the @waparkswildlife #Goldfields region. I am also indebted to elders from whom I've been so fortunate to learn, especially Neil @neilham2007 whose vision set the scene for this #ornithology, & all the collaborators, whether featured here or not (err..hrrrmm @tegan_douglas!!), who make Bird Week possible! BIG #LOVE to all out there #soaring in #WedgetailedEagle world! ๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’› https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-11-03/eagle-man-teams-with-remote-outback-schools-science-program/10382426 #liveyourdream #WhereWedgiesDare #simoncherriman #insightornithology #lovelife

It was a sheer delight yesterday arvo to be #oncountry visiting this local & parTICularly special brood of #Waalitj #twins (the 7th of this season!) with my wonderful Mum, & Amanda & Stuart, two of the most dedicated #wildlife carers & #raptor rehabilitators I have met! We were all in awe of the charismatic beauty of these healthy #sisters & I was so pleased to see my important dataset on #WedgetailedEagle #nest density & productivity continue to grow! The younger of these 2 #eagles was the 30th juvenile #WedgetailedEagle to be fitted with #colourings & ABBBS bands this year, an ongoing #birdbanding project that is helping improve our knowledge of the species' movements & engage the wider community in #science! Keep your eyes out for a #soaring #wedgie with a yellow 'bracelet' near you... more pics coming soon!! ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ #birdringing #raptorresearch #simoncherriman #insightornithology #WhereWedgiesDare #PerthHills #wildoz #amazingnature #lovelife

Talking about Tasmania and flicking through the photos and I come across this photo. Abalone is one of our traditional foods and as I look at this image my mouth waters as I now so want a feed! Tasmanian abalone is one of the worldโ€™s most sought-after seafoods and whether sauteed, slow-cooked or raw, this humble sea snail is the most amazing feed. I actually worked in an abalone factory when I was in my twenties and cleaned and canned them for export to China.
