This guy cracks me up - this was our first night camping and he had just come back from fishing. He’s wearing pants AND a rain coat because it was chilly. Yet he decided he should wade into the lake. I wasn’t really feeling up to the task of water rescue, yet when I tried to coax him closer, he just laughed and went deeper. ♀️
Isn’t that how it is sometimes? We try our hardest to teach our kids right from wrong, and what’s safe and what’s not, yet at the end of the day, they give us a little grin (or maybe a stern look) and go their own way. Yet it’s our job to give them the opportunity to fail, even if it makes life uncomfortable for us.
Some days I’m not sure I’m up to the task of parenting two adventurous (and very different from each other!) little boys. They exhaust me, they scare me, they worry me, but they also make me laugh, fill my heart with joy and make me so darn thankful.
I saw a quote on a board one day and loved it so much I bought a sign with the saying: “Let Whatever You Do Today Be Enough”
Inasmuch as I am able, I’ve made that my motto, and it has allowed me to take it easy on myself and reminded me to celebrate small victories and find joy in the everyday. I hope it encourages you as well.
