Mother India. Each and every year, the climate gets more and more extreme. The summers become unbearably hot, and the monsoon gets more destructive just about everywhere. Though I thoroughly trust that Mother Nature knows what she is doing, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that as humans, we are simply destroying the planet.
It’s not a lie when I say my relationship with India has been difficult. I came here with optimism after college, thinking I’d do something meaningful. But experiencing India over the course of 3 years as an independent adult has permanently damaged the way I think about Indian society as something entirely dysfunctional.
And it makes me even more sad when I see how things are going terribly wrong and the basic infrastructure in our country fails to support people’s needs. It’s quite obvious the flood situation in Kerala is not receiving the assistance it should. Over 200,000 people are homeless and at least 150 have died, as 35 dams opened and the rain refuses to stop. (Flooding is also present in Coorg and other areas).
So as a social media influencer, I think it’s our duty to do whatever little we can and share information with people. Even if the government is shit; even if our country is full of retarded fucks who can’t understand basic humanity, India is still made up of us. And so be an influencer in real life. Tell your friends to donate, tell your mother. Get up and do something. Ultimately, every person’s karma is his own.
