Earth Day Contest Entry
@inversiondancestudios asked, "What trick is your most tried and true, most efficient and energy saving for your own body, but packs a punch to your overall dance performance?"
Although I have a few of these moves, the gemini (outside leg hang) is probably my favorite "go to" move that allows me to relax and breathe a little, and it is a hands-free move, so it still looks impressive to an audience. It's a beautiful shape and there are many gemini variations, which means a lot of shape options from this standard position. And it's also a transition into dozens of other moves! (In this video, I used it as a transition into the Duchess). .
We were also asked if we have a "less is more" mindset when we dance. After competing recently and discovering how taxing it is to get through a full length performance while maintaining maximum energy and projection to the audience, there had to be some moments of "down time," and they aren't always in the floorwork like you might think. Sometimes it can be stopping in a pose on the pole, connecting with the audience, slowing down for a second to really take your time with the move. These slow, careful, intentional moments can get a big audience reaction, while allowing the dancer a few seconds for some deep breaths!
