BurgerFuel's PBJ Burger. Seems BurgerFuel is trying to cash in to our childhood nostalgia here. The advert tell us this burger is inspired by old-school lunches and claims that it is so good, it could be traded on the playground, black market style. Peanuts at school? That is old-school alright. I imagine it would have to be black market trading too, because my sources tell me the current penalty for having a peanut butter sandwich on school grounds is public caning followed by 4 afternoons of detention.
I feared not enough caution has been taking in messing with a childhood favourite like this. Peanuts? OK, maybe on a satay burger or some shit like that. But strawberry jam on a burger, with peanut sauce? Surely this is some sort of a sick joke? Let it not be said that Sh1teater is one to balk at reinvention of long established staples like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, but I was apprehensive at this idea.
This burger is the usual beef burger with melted cheddar and salads and shit, but then they add a peanut sauce, balsamic strawberries and strawberry jam. Total lunacy. I closed my eyes in dread as I bit into the burger expecting a sweet/umami train wreck, but the creators of this burger had gone more subtle. It actually wasn't bad at all. I wouldn't claim it tasted like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but it was reminiscent of one. The peanut sauce was present in the background, politely letting the beef take the center stage and the strawberry was merely a tease of sweet and tart. Although not one of my favourite offerings from BurgerFuel, it was totally edible and very enjoyable as a change from my normal.
