Welcome to a new series with @dailydribbledrive! We will be counting down our top five overrated players currently in the NBA. The definition of an overrated player is one that holds a greater value than deserved. I am not discounting the greatness of these players but pointing out those that are held at a higher standard than deserved. I love all of these players and wish them nothing but the best.
That being said, Jayson Tatum is my pick for the fifth most overrated player in the league. To begin, i’d like to highlight his stats for the 2017-18 season. Averaging over 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists, Tatum proved to be an important role player and helped the Celtics reach the Eastern Conference Finals. However, he is seen to be ranked considerably higher than much better players. ESPN has Tatum as the 24th best player in the league, over the likes of Kemba Walker and CJ McCollum. CBS Sports has him as 33rd over Blaker Griffin. Lastly, The Washington Post has him 35th, over established players such as Demarcus Cousins and Kevin Love. I believe that Tatum is not as great as these players and receives more credit than he deserves. What do you think?
