Try adding the Nordic Hamstring Curl exercise into your training to reduce your risk of injury💪

Prevention is better than a cure 👍

Many view the Nordic hamstring curl as the holy grail of hamstring injury prevention and this is not without merit; there is a substantial body of evidence to support its use for any athletes participating in sports that require sprinting.
.
.
Most hamstring injuries in sport occur during high speed running. This is associated with the presence of repetitive high force eccentric (eccentric exercises are exercises where the muscle contracts while lengthening rather than shortening) movements observed in athletes during high speed running. Injury occurs when the lengthening demands placed on the muscle exceeds the mechanical limits of the muscle. Therefore it is suggested that increasing the eccentric strength of the hamstring muscle will prevent risk of injury.

If the Nordic hamstring curl seems a bit too intimidating to try, perhaps instead try these two eccentric hamstring curls variations using disc sliders seen in image 2 and 3. These are also great exercises to start building eccentric strengthening of the hamstring and can build confidence to start trying the Nordics.

For beginners try starting with 2 sets of 4-5 reps once per week, slowly progressively increase the sets, reps and load.

A full recovery process looks like this:

2️⃣ Regain control of injured part (Rehab STARTS HERE)
3️⃣ Make sure injured parts work nice with the rest of the body
4️⃣ Repeat until every movement you do look nice

Making the time to nurture our own soul is essential. I am always reminded by this quote from my teacher, @yogaruparodstryker : “the gifts of discipline far outweigh the pain of discipline.” My recommendations: start small. 10-15 minutes of compassionate movement, mindful breath, and quiet introspection can profoundly shift your energy, focus and daily productivity. I find I am effortlessly more creative on days where I make the time to start my day with practice, regardless how brief or how long. Make your health and sanity a key priority today and everyday. Just think, in 3 months you’ll really thank yourself.
