The Death of Seabirds- not only does plastic pollution harm the oceans, it also harms the land and skies. I think sometimes people forget about the cyclic oneness of our ecosystem. In damaging one element, we damage another, and another, and another. And so goes the chain reaction of cause and effect Human beings are connected by nerves, and hearts, and thoughts, just as nature is connected by water, soil and wildlife And just like nature, we rely upon a balance of conditions in order to survive and flourish .
In all of the want and need for a better life, a more fulfilled day, more money, more coffee, more things, we forget- that we ARE nature! We breathe nature, we eat nature, and we are born of nature. So I beg you please, don’t forget the oneness of our lives, the roots that enable us to grow. Tomorrow try planting your feet deep into the earth, lift your head up to the sky, run your fingers through the salty ocean waves. And ask yourself: Why would anyone sacrifice such beauty and magnificence...for a plastic bottle of Diet Coke, or a coffee cup, or the stamp of a cigarette butt on the concrete floor because the bin is too far away? If we could feel all of these things floating around in our bodies, we wouldn’t think twice to refuse them! .
Sadly, they will end up there anyway- in the body of water that rests upon the belly of the earth, in the stomachs and intestines of animals that cannot distinguish a plastic nurdle from an egg, in the wind pipes and around the necks of innocent creatures that only wanted to feed their young. .
In this place that we call our blue planet, in this place that we call earth, in this place that we call home. What is it that we are living for?
