Located at the intersection of Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road on the south wing of Yangtze River Economic Belt, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has the largest deepwater berths and most arrivals of China's ports.
The integration of Ningbo Port and Zhoushan Port is a major opening-up project promoted by Zhejiang after its implementation of the "eight-eight strategy". Seizing new opportunities, it has become an important maritime node of the Belt and Road Initiative and a pioneer of opening-up in Zhejiang Province.
Twelve years ago, though sharing the same waters and fairways, coastal ports in Zhejiang were largely separate with each port operated and planned on their own. Low cost cargoes frequently occurred. During the past 12 years, two local ports were linked together with sharedcapital, technology and talents, forming an unified intergration of ports. Resources have been continuously optimized, merged, and revitalized. This eventually gave birth to the world’s first “1 billion tons of cargoes" port and created an effect of “1+1 is larger than 2”. Late last year, Ningbo Zhoushan port reported that its annual cargo throughput has hit one billion tons，ranking No. 1 in the world for nine consecutive years.
