We were invited to an Ice Cream Party tonight and while I know to most people this sounds extremely fun, and I’m sure it will be. It gives me major anxiety! 😬 I know some of you might think, what’s the big deal?! Well, sugary treats are my weakness and when I’m surrounded by an abundance of it, I tend to cave and go hawg wild. So I’ve learned to just not expose myself to those temptations in larger group settings. Sometimes it sucks to miss out on special events like the one planned for tonight but my overall health is what’s most important and it’s easier to stay home than have people constantly ask you why you aren’t eating. Slice of Honey Baked Ham
Turkey Bacon

Took a walk at the park today because it was nice and cool out...and my body is SORE after doing 3 workouts in 12 hours! But I knew I still needed to move it to help with the soreness.
Afterwards I went grocery shopping and came home to meal prep...neither of which I wanted to do. It started raining on my way to the store and it’s been raining since...which just puts a damper on my mood 😕 On top of having a hard time with my nutrition lately (in the evenings at least). I’ve found myself desiring convenience over what I know I need to fuel my body and I CAN TELL! I have less energy. Bloated more often. And just don’t feel good. Sooo, I made myself prep the meals for the week and knowing I’m done for the week (minus dinners) makes me feel in control and ready to reach my goals.
It’s not always easy, but it’s ALWAYS worth it!

Portion control doesn't mean that you have to starve yourself. Portion control and once you are aware of your portions can really be an easy way to help reduce excess weight/fat.

This easy-to-follow Healthy Meal Plate Model makes meal planning simple and well balanced🤗

Set a plate up as below:
1️⃣ Vegetables
50% of the plate
Veggies are high in vitamins and minerals, fibre, antioxidants and loads of goodness for your body - I usually choose: asparagus, green beans, lettuce, broccoli, zucchini, tomato, cucumber, kale, spinach, bell pepper or cauliflower. You can replace one half of the vegetables with fruits.
2️⃣ Protein
25% of the plate
A portion should be comparable to the size of the palm of your hand - go for lean protein if possible, I choose: chicken, turkey, lean beef, fish, eggs or if you are vegetarian, enjoy plant-based alternatives such as tofu, lentils, chickpeas, beans or edamame.
3️⃣ Carbs
25% of the plate
Go for unprocessed, fibre-rich whole grains or starchy vegetables. I prefer basmati or brown rice, quinoa, whole wheat pasta, sweet potatoes, bulgur, oats, buckwheat, squash or pumpkin.
4️⃣ Healthy fats
A portion of your thumb tip - you could use olive oil, coconut oil, nuts or avocado.

You can adjust the portion of each food group depending on your level of physical activity and your goals.

Made this dish today in the crockpot and it’s super delicious, easy to make and low points! I used chicken breast instead of thighs so the whole crockpot only has 2 points in it. Although that first picture can seem true at times, meal prepping has become a like second nature to me now. I spend a few hours in the kitchen and then that's it during the evenings so I can do what I want to do! Here are my tips: 🍇Make a plan: find tasty recipes with foods you enjoy then make a list before going to the store!
🍉 Stick to your grocery list: out of site, out of mind my friends! Money saver without impulse buying!
🍊Snack simple: pick snacks that don't require a lot of prep. Portion them so they are snack sizes instead of meals and ready to gombled up!
🍌Mix things up: eventually you will get bored if you eat the same things which leads to unhealthy choices!
🍍 Invest in containers / baggies: helps with portion control, organization, and they are ready to go!
🍎Dishes: do them as you go! It is not the end of the world so don't let soap and water keep you from your goals!
🍐 Spice up your life: pack a different punch when cooking. But be careful of salt!
🍒 Get your family and friends on board: support always makes things easier! Plus they can help prep! Taco Tuesday, Fish Friday, Sauce Sunday!
🥝 Frozen food: don't be afraid to use them. Easy and quick!
🍓Keep and an eye on the prize: you are committing to meal prepping with a goal of health and fitness gains.

Portion sizes are increasing all the time. Every time you go out to eat, there seems to be a bigger plate than the last time. I often times share food with a friend or order from the A La Cart menu. Not only does it keep my portions smaller, but it saves money too. My husband asks for a To-Go container at the start of the meal instead of the end. He puts half of his meal in the container and has leftovers for lunch the next day. That way he does not over eat and we also do not have wasted food on either of our parts.
