We’re 6 weeks through the nutrition program ✨halfway✨ #BCSCF12

I am so happy with my results so far and was honestly shocked by my progress pictures [queue little girl squealing 🙇🏻‍♀️] NOTE: why do I look so pissed in the first picture? 😂

For those new here, the nutriton program follows the #zonediet. I’ve taken on a lighter approach to this and by lighter I mean less tracking & counting and more mindfulness by measuring #portioncontrol. Why? Because I know myself and what works for me!
.
I haven’t really changed what I’m eating but when I’m eating it & the right blend of macronutrients. I’ve scaled back complex carbs like rice, oatmeal and potatoes while also ensuring I’m having healthy fats with each meal 🥑
.
I’ve lost about 5 pounds so far but weight loss 💯NOT my goal coming into this program. My goals were to gain muscle, tone, increase performance at the gym, and let’s be real - get ABS! Im on track to meeting these goals!
.
More real talk: I have not been perfect throughout these 6 weeks either! I’ve treated myself, gone out to eat, enjoyed alcohol but what’s been important is consistency! Consistency is 🔑

Steak is awesome though - packed full of protein and vitamins and minerals like iron and zinc.

Thing is as much as JUICY steak is delicious and all, it comes with a cost.

A calorie one!

See, that 'juiciness' is fat and fat is HIGHLY calorific - 9 calories per gram compared to just 4 calories per gram of protein and, indeed, carbs.
.
So, be aware - and just look at the difference in calories between 170g of Fillet Steak (a leaner less 'juicy' cut) and 170g of Ribeye (imo the KING of 'juicy' steaks 🤤)
.
I'm not saying don't ever eat a super-juicy steak btw - merely that you might want to mainly stick the leaner ones if you regularly eat steak.

Thank god I planned a whole weeks worth of meals out and grocery shopped 🛒 on Sunday so on crazy nights like this, I don’t even have to think about what we’re having for dinner. ⠀⠀ It’s on my meal plan, quick and easy to make, oh, and it’s boyfriend approved! ⠀⠀

How can I lower my chances of developing type 2 diabetes?

Research such as the Diabetes Prevention Program shows that you can do a lot to reduce your chances of developing type 2 diabetes. Here are some things you can change to lower your risk:

Lose weight and keep it off. You may be able to prevent or delay diabetes by losing 5 to 7 percent of your starting weight.
For instance, if you weigh 200 pounds, your goal would be to lose about 10 to 14 pounds.

Move more. Get at least 30 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week. If you have not been active, talk with your health care professional about which activities are best. Start slowly to build up to your goal.

Eat healthy foods most of the time.Eat smaller portions to reduce the amount of calories you eat each day and help you lose weight. Choosing foods with less fat is another way to reduce calories. Drink water instead of sweetened beverages.

“Portion control” is bullshit.

It’s not South Beach, Atkins, juice cleanse, meal replacement shakes...

“Diets” that have rigid rules and include restriction, will NEVER work long term. They will likely work in the short term, it’s true.

But what happens when you have a birthday? And want to have cake and pizza? And then the next three months you feel like you are out of control because you have been “depriving” yourself while you were on your “diet” and you’re just eating all the foods you missed??? (Sound familiar?)

I’ve been there. I GET it.

These days, I choose mostly real food. I have chosen to nourish my body and mind and I know how good I feel when I eat real food, that has lots of nutrients in it.

But you know what else nourishes me?
.
Cake on my birthday, and your birthday.
.
Pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, second helpings on thanksgiving!
.
Raising a glass together when celebrating something special.
.
The last few years I have FINALLY found a lifestyle that is healthy AND never feels restrictive.

The Keys?
.
🔑 Real food. We need enough calories and nutrients to function well! It’s just the bottom line (Processed food is straight up addicting, and it’s not your fault you can’t stop eating it.) But I also don’t beat myself up if I have to grab something quick when I wasn’t prepared. It’s OKAY!
🔑Accepting that your journey is not a straight line from A to B. It’s just not. Get over it.
🔑Mindful eating. If you want something, have it. Learn to eat mindfully, make it intimate. Food can be pleasurable 😉.
🔑Commit to learning. Every. Damn. Day. It’s important to start learning about yourself, your body, and your habits. I’m still learning daily! Once you get the basics down, it will just flow soooo nicely!
🔑You’re going to “fall off” the bandwagon. This is normal. You did not fail. You just take what you can from the situation and move forward.

So I got rid of the bloating for the most part. My diet has been pretty relaxed and I am down 1.5 lbs this week. I definitely feel different. It may not show on my body yet, but I don't feel discussing after eating because before I was putting shit terrible things into my body. I was over eating. I was maybe drinking 16oz of water. Only things I have changed is what I eat (sort of), how much I eat, and how much water I drink (now getting 60 to 80 floz a day). Here is too week one of this journey. And here's too many more!

I was SO excited for myself this morning that I had to share what is POSSIBLE. Check out my results from just two weeks!!!

Seven months now I’ve tried to lose the baby weight. I’d lose a couple during the week, and gain it back over the weekend. I was working out too, but that didn’t seem to be doing much for my weight.
I’ve been determined to get the weight off, and I thought I was in the right mindset to do it, but obviously what I was doing wasn’t working. What did I need??? The answer: consistency and sustainability. And it starts in the kitchen.🙌🏻 I never thought that being educated by a registered dietician with a whole squad of people struggling with the same issues would lead to a 7 lb loss in a TWO WEEKS. I saw a number this morning that I hadn’t seen in a long time, and I actually had convinced myself that I’d never see it because it was impossible to lose the baby weight.

I made my own seitan! It was super easy and yummy! Seitan and Asian veggies in a sesame orange sauce with jasmine rice👍🏻. The seitan is lightly breaded with flour and seasoning and browned in a tad of sesame oil. The sauce is a combo of liquid aminos (soy sauce alternative), fresh squeezed OJ, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and sriracha. Top with sliced scallions and fresh cilantro for a beautiful bowl.
