Just like us humans, our dogs have their good and bad days. Kinchi came to us with fear based reactivity in a couple forms. Today was a super busy and exciting day in Kelowna. People everywhere, a few festivals downtown, and a lot of dogs. A crowd of kids wanted to say hi to the dogs, the girls crouched down low, but one boy stood high over them and he scared her. She let us know by barking, and I gave her more space. Then, seconds later, a cute little boston approached her little sisters quickly and she proceeded to scream in alarm. That prompted me to give her even more space - and treats for changing her choice of focus.
“Trigger stacking” can overwhelm any dog, in whatever forms that are uncomfortable. For some, it is noises, for some, it is other dogs. It is up to us to be sure we read our dogs and keep them comfortable. Sorry baby boo
