Today I called Salus Clinic as a follow up on my previous post about finding the health care specialists in Post Maria Puerto Rico to treat my PCOS. The thing that I love about this clinic is that they have different specialists and one record, therefore they can share the information about my health and I can get a holistic or integral approach. For me, it's important that all of the specialists can give their insight based on their area of expertise and that they can create together a personalized treatment to reduce my symptoms. Also, I have low copays at this clinic because it is part of the network of my health plan. The representative that talked to me through the phone was very friendly and attentive, she managed to schedule appointments for the upcoming months with some of the specialists that I was looking for. However, as expected, this was not the case for the endocrinologist. Even though they are taking new patients and are expecting to hire more physicians focused on this specialty, they currently only have 2 available and they are booked until the end of the year. I was able to get in the waiting list and I will be called if someone cancels their appointment. Unfortunately, neither one of the doctors provide services on my day off work, so I would need to know in advance to make the proper arrangements and be able to go. Due to the migration after the Hurrican Maria hit our island last year, Puerto Rico has experienced a loss of health care providers. Tomorrow I will continue to call the endocrinologists on my health insurance directory to see if I have luck and can get an appointment before the year ends.
