Today has been low energy and high anxiety. Not helped by the fact that I strained my back in my workout yesterday so I’m in a little pain again. All of that combined has made it difficult to get anything done today. I hate ending a pretty positive week like this. It makes me look to the new week with anxiety and stress, which isn’t an ideal outlook for the week ahead.

It sucks when suffering from anxiety and depression because you do not get to choose when it comes and when it goes. It seemingly just hits out of nowhere sometimes. Obviously different people have different triggers, but sometimes it just pops up. I hate that it robs me of my joy, my motivation, my self-esteem, my positivity. Turns me into someone I despise and it’s extra hard to take care of Gemma, let alone myself.
.
But I’ve been dealing with it for years now and even though my medicine helps it’s still a constant battle. But as hard as it still is I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know this too, will pass. .
I’m glad today is rest day so that I don’t have to skip a workout to rest my back. Going to take a hot bath, a mindfulness break, and read a good book. Tomorrow is a new day 💜

And just know, if you suffer from anxiety/depression/PPD/PPA too, you’re not alone. It took me a long time to seek professional help but the first thing that started to give me some relief was talking with people I trust and love, which includes this community. It made a huge difference in my recovery having a support system and being able to write everything out (like this novel 😝). Just like with working out, it’s so so important in your mental health too. Even if you’re not ready to talk about it, just remember that and take heart 😘 You are loved. You matter. You are worthy and beautiful.

Took a stroll in the rain earlier 🌦️
One of them restless kinda days where you over think things and the best thing to do is to just get out and walk it off 🚶🏼‍♀️ I’m lucky Vinnie loves walks just as much as me 😊 you can see him soaking up every little detail.

NON SCALE VICTORY!
I had jean's I wore pre-triplets (post Daniel), my highest size to date, and it was ok, I was a new mom and now in my 30's 😱 but I was not comfortable in my own skin, i wasn't happy with how my clothes fit my new body.
BUT....I've put in the hard work, no easy ways out, ALL healthy diet and exercise (mostly diet tho) and now have bypassed my "pre-daniel but mid IVF" pants, and skipped right on down to the next size pants which were my "PRE-IVF" pants 👏

I spent a few years learning about food and how it impacts your health. Once I changed my diet, I had gone from being unhealthy skinny in my early 20s, to bloated, and quickly gaining weight due to fertility meds, endometriosis, and multiple procedures and surgeries in my late 20s. Once I started focusing on my HEALTH, I finally felt great and was at a good, healthy weight. Then I gained about 20 pounds thrughout our IVF process, and it had continued since.
I am shocked, and have to say, a little bit proud, that I fit into my PRE-IVF pants....my last and final goal!

But it's time to go shopping because I really prefer my high waisted pants now 🤣

It’s so important to get out in nature to refresh your mind and re-energize from the hustle and bustle of city life 📿. Often times I really wish we lived somewhere in the woods, away from all the negativities of a busy town. Thankfully, we live literally 20 minutes away from a beautiful getaway in the mountains ⛰️. Sadly we have limited time to make it out there often, because #Life 🤷🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️, but we definitely try when we can. Especially for the babies. 👶🏼👧🏻

I think every woman (maybe every man too, who knows?) gets into a funk after having a baby. For me, I get tired, worn down and let myself go a little bit. Maybe you forget to wash your face, your hair is a mess and you've probably traded in the cute panties for ones two sizes too big... You have baby on the brain 24/7.. It's a tough stage but at some point, you start to bounce back and feel more yourself again. Your spark returns. I'm starting to feel like me again and I dig it. 😊

I love the nutrition plan I follow because I don’t feel like i’m following any diet, I don’t feel restricted, I don’t have massive cravings. Just by eating real foods and a simple eating structure that I can follow for life! Protein, veggies most and FFC’s and i’m set 🙌🏼 And still seeing results with foods I enjoy , like pizza yesterday 😜

Trying to spread the love equally is hard when the first one has been the apple of your eye for two and a bit years.
Today I felt the most guilt so far about Sonny and how he’s feeling, and on top of that I also felt bad that Daisy will never get the time devoted to her that Sonny did.
I think me and Mr R are doing a pretty good job of sharing our time equally with both of them but it’s hard and I especially feel like it’s never enough for Sonny. I think there have been more tantrums, more testing of boundaries although I’m not totally sure as children are pretty adaptable and it tends to be us adults who get in the way and inflict our expectations on them or look for signs that aren’t actually there. He’s certainly full of cuddles and kisses for his little sister and the first thing he says each morning is “Where’s Daisy?”
Probably this is a time of adjustment and learning a new normal but I’m sure that soon enough he won’t be able to imagine life without her. And especially when she’s old enough for them to play together.
I’m probably feeling a bit more anxious about things today as last night every time I got a bit of sleep I had a nightmare, things like accidents or awful things happening to them. I’ve also had a lingering headache today, possibly worry too. Hopefully it’s all just a process and this will get easier and less nerve wracking?

Out for our first walk today in the double buggy. I actually found it much easier than I thought it would be and most importantly, Sonny loved it. We bought an extra insert to support Daisy which I’ve put in my stories if anyone’s interested.
I so glad this was a winner because it means I can hopefully double up nap time with some cardio for me, especially if there are some hills involved 😬
We went for the joie_global twin stroller. Ok maybe I was a bit sold already by the cute blue and pink seat liners 💗💙, but I think it’s a great buggy for an excellent price.
(Not an ad, obviously, my account is teeny bit if you want to send me free stuff, please do 😆) We had a few of Sonny’s friends and their grown ups round today to meet Daisy. Chilled out little girl slept through the whole thing - even a room full of screaming banging toddlers 🙈 Thanks so much to everyone who came and for the amazing gifts ❤️
And thank you to Mr R for putting Sonny to bed so I can have a bath while little Daisy naps again.

Back in the gym today, woop woop, 6 days postpartum. But hold up there pelvic floor police, 🖐🏻 before I start getting messages about the fragile state of my undercarriage post baby. 😙
I was merely following the pelvic floor and core exercises set out in the Fit for the Future booklet given out by my midwife. UK mums 🇬🇧, before you sign up to some expensive postnatal workout guide, make sure you read and actually DO the exercises in the NHS booklet handed out to you by your midwife after birth when you leave the hospital. It’s part of the pack with your red book. I went to a prenatal physio class when I was pregnant with Sonny and it was extremely beneficial and yet one of the most under attended. (Incidentally it’s also where I met my bezzy mate claire_hamilton_abbott ❤️❤️ so there can be more to these classes than you think)
UK mums, 🇬🇧 if you’re offered that class, please go.
I filmed my workout so I’ll share when I’ve had a chance to edit but in the meantime here’s a pic from today. Amazed at how much my stomach has gone down this time. Must admit after baby number two I didn’t know how it would go but hopefully this gives some reassurance to other mums reading this and planning their second sprog.
If you didn’t see my stories we had our first proper night of newborn cluster feeding so I didn’t sleep much at all last night but funnily enough felt much better today - probably thanks to your reassurance on yesterday’s post. Here we are at 2 weeks postpartum tomorrow.
My body has recovered much quicker this time and I think the main reason is because I didn’t over do it during pregnancy. With Sonny my first baby I was scared of what pregnancy would do to my body so I tried to keep up high standards. I would often force myself to go to the gym, even though I felt like crap. This time I trained roughly 2-3 times a week and very much went on how I felt that day. By no means did I force myself to train, I did as much or as little as I felt like that day. I also ate really well and made sure I got rest when I needed.
Result was that I didn’t have as much swelling/water retention, no colds or infections and by the end I still felt extremely fit and able (for someone whose 9 months pregnant that is!)
Moral of the story: Don’t be afraid that during pregnancy you’ll ‘lose your fitness or lose your body’ Stay active (if you can) train within your limits and listen to your body, it probably knows what it needs better than you do. Do be mindful of what you eat, I think this is really key. I followed a clean diet like I always do. Occasional treats and I definitely I ate more than usual however it was all good nutritious food that my body needed. Two and a half weeks with this little one. 💖
It’s still early days and we’re no where near getting into a routine yet but things are beginning to settle down. Hubby went back to work yesterday so I have to just get on with it now.
The hardest bit is managing Sonny as well as the baby. He’s a typical lively two year old boy, full of mischief and fun and I spend most of my time chasing him or making sure he’s not over enthusiastically cuddling (read squeezing) Daisy.
It’s bloody stressful sometimes, especially if Daisy crys and needs me but I’ve got to clean three dollops of poop off the floor and Sonny’s leg first. #pottytrainingproblems
Daisy is a fantastic little baby though and sleeps for long stretches even through the night. Sonny wasn’t like this at all so it’s strange when I wake up regularly but she’s still happily fast asleep.
I’ll be glad when she’s able to hold her head up and feels a bit more solid, hopefully it’ll be easier to physically look after both of them. I use the sling lots so that I have my hands free but obviously you still need to watch their head and it’s not ideal if I’m bending down with Sonny a lot.
We got a date next month to have Daisy’s tongue tie corrected and we’re also waiting for an appointment for Sonny to have a hernia repaired, finally, after being back and forth to doctors who wouldn’t believe there was one (possibly two) there when it was so obvious to us.
I hope I feel a bit more relaxed soon but I also don’t want to wish this precious time away. Trying to appreciate each and every hectic minute of it because I know some day pretty soon I’ll be wishing they were little again. 💫

Last week Spencer had to travel to Toronto for work. He was scheduled to fly home Friday night, but his flight was cancelled with no explanation and no alternative flights for 3 days. Not wanting to stay away from Ellie and I any longer, he connected with two strangers in the airport and together they decided to rent a car and all drive their way down, together.
When he first told me, I was terrified. To me that sounded like the beginning of a bad horror movie. My anxiety began to get the best of me. After long discussions together, he assured me that he had faith in humanity and that he would be fine. After a bit of waiting, sure enough, he made it home safely. After a few long hugs he told me all about about their backgrounds as a QVC personality and Georgetown University Professor. He said the car conversations were amazing and in the span along a few hours, they were able to make real connections together; and how he felt he genuinely made two new unexpected friends.
Having lived through this crazy situation and seeing how a leap of faith between strangers paid off, I find myself questioning why I don’t put more faith in the goodness of people.

This goes both for the expectant parents and for their loved ones.

When someone is pregnant a lot of focus is put on the stuff the baby (and sometimes the mama) will need. But the truth is that babies don't need much. Expensive, beautiful cribs often become oversized laundry baskets, the baby outgrows most of those cute outfits before they ever got a chance to wear them, and the house gets cluttered with all the devices that promise to make life easier and are supposed to provide you more rest. But somehow, you're still expected to do most of it alone or with very little help.

Having the support of friends, family, and paid professionals while navigating the transitions of pregnancy, birth and postpartum is absolutely invaluable.

When planning for baby, prioritize support. Lactation consultants, mental health counselors, birth and postpartum doulas, housekeepers and healthy food delivery services are just some of the examples.

You won't regret it!

123 lb–>150 lb–>116 lb

This isn’t a post about the number itself (don’t get ill about me posting numbers), it’s more of a post about the resiliency and adaptability of our bodies.

Pre-pregnancy: Lifting heavy weight 5-6x/week, consistently for years. Took me 6 months to gain literally one pound of muscle. Pregnant: Still lifting 4-5x/week, but lighter weight and decreasing the weight as pregnancy progressed. Post-pregnancy (8 months): HIIT 1-2x/week (@orangetheory), focusing on heart rate rather than how many lbs I’m lifting.

I have learned SO MUCH about the body and what it’s capable of, being flexible about the phase of life that you’re in, and how different we can be in regards to what gives us results. For me to see results with weightlifting only, I have to lift at least 4x/week (aka not doable for me right now). I naturally have a fast metabolism and it takes a LOT of work for me to gain weight in a healthy way (trust me when I say I’m not bragging, I’m just keeping it real with y’all). Keep in mind the first 2 months postpartum you really can’t do much ‘exercise’ as everything is just focused on healing. But with HIIT training even at just low frequency (which I started around 4 months postpartum) I can focus on body composition and improve the tone and strength of the muscle that I have left while working off the baby fat I’ve kept to help maintain a body that will continue to provide sustenance for little dude 🍼 We’re still exclusively breastfed approaching 8 months which I’m pretty proud of because it has been hard AF (not to say only breast is best, honestly proud of any mamas just for being mamas) but BF does also change hormones and tries to keep some extra softness on you (even Serena Williams’s trainer told her she needed to stop BF if she was gunna be in form to win tournaments).

At this point, I’m just weaning when we feel ready. I know I won’t go longer than a year, but we’ll see over the next few months how well we transition to solid foods. It’ll be a bittersweet moment and I’m sure I’ll have a significant amount of tears when we do stop, but I’m so so thankful to have been able to make it this far. New mamas: PROMISE (1/2)

Here’s my “before” photo for my last post. My underarms needed a serious wax - a few weeks ago 😬

When waxing I had many thoughts running through my mind. Some not so great. I don’t mind weight gain, stretch marks, not fitting in my favorite jeans but at times it can still be an adjustment. Something to get used to. Ultimately my goal is to toned all over and to be stronger than I ever have been physically. I finally enjoy exercising and love what it does for me mentally, emotionally and physically.
I may never fit into my favorite pair of jeans again but hey, I can just go buy a new pair. These new pair will mark all of the hard work my body has been through. Pregnancy, labor, recovery, exercising - and honestly, I enjoy finally having a butt so I’m excited to fill out a pair of jeans in this new way 😂
Another thing that made me feel pretty this morning regardless of not having my hair or makeup done was my skin. I haven’t taken care of my face super great since having Jovi. I have a few pimples but I’ve gotten back on track these past few days and while I still have these blemishes I felt so good since my face was so clean and hydrated. (I have super dry skin so I gave it some extra love today.) My thing lately is self care. Wash your face every morning & night. Don’t skip flossing. Drink plenty of water. Get some physical activity in. Spend time with those who lift you up. Pray. Read a good book. Have a guilty pleasure.
The list can go on and on based on what you need. You do you girl, life is too short to live unhappily.

When I look at this picture all I see is how far I have to go.

Sometimes I feel like I work so hard... I'm so consistent... I've been working out regularly since February, and I'm just not where I want to be.
.
I know. You don't lose 140lbs over night. I know my results are slow because I'm still on prednisone. I know I'm only 5 weeks postpartum, so I'm careful about what and how much I'm doing... *I KNOW*.... and it still makes me feel SO frustrated.
.
But I'll show up tomorrow... and the next day... and all next week... Next month... Next year, because slow progress is still progress... and I promised myself I'd do it.
.
Don't give up when it doesn't go how you want it to. Trust the work... and show up. Even when you're tired, frustrated and just want to eat junk. It'll happen. Just keep at it.

My videos are raw, real, unfiltered and unedited...just like fitness and health should be! Monday is @keepitcleaner boxing day 💥 4 rounds of 5 minutes, that is nothing out of the whole day. Work breaks go for an hour, there is no excuse not to take care of yourself 😚 20 seconds on 10 seconds off allows the body to get the most out of each exercise and recover for the next set. Whatever your fitness journey, goal, kids, no kids, struggles or hurdles..remember you can do it. There are so many pyramid schemes, ridiculous programs, restricting meal plans, detoxes etc that are so short term and and getting in the way of us allowing to be the best GENUINE version of ourselves. My mission is to spread awareness that you can achieve your goals without the magic pills or expensive gym membership or starving yourself. Struggling to workout tonight. Yesterday I made my rest day so I had to get it done tonight and I did. Just feeling disappointed with progress....I have to remember it’s how I feel and I feel stronger. Appearances are not the first to change...I’ll get there.

••{{ I thought you were always thin, healthy & into working out }}•• I had a conversation with someone that said just that! So I wanted to take a minute to share with you part of my story. I think some people reading my posts think this all comes naturally to me. I know it can seem that way but it is very far from the truth! You see my workout videos & see me making healthy meals believe that -----> I must have always loved been the person who loves to get their sweat on, I who always knew how to eat healthy.... The truth is the old me thought she knew how to eat healthy ((but I didn’t )). I always “did my own thing” by piecing together workouts... but it never really got me ANYWHERE!! I It took me a long time to realize or admit that I needed HELP!

The truth is I had to LEARN these skills. Skills that that I've implemented over the last 2.5 years of my journey have gotten me to where I am today (not perfect just a better healthier & more positive me ). Through following theses programs I was taught how to do use the simple but effective TOOLS provided with the programs. Easy meal plans with delicious healthy and nutritious recipes that were so easy to make! Workouts that were always challenging different body parts and delivered results! Shakes (that I didn’t think I needed) but I realized I that I actually DID. Why?!? Because it just made it super easy to stay on track with my meal plan and my goals. Because it was an easy time saving hack this busy momma needed in her life! Im so happy that I found what works for me and this is why I share my story with you on social media (scarey as heck sometimes sharing such personal struggles ). But....I do it to show you that YOU CAN TOO!
I found what's easy to stick with. What helped me get from my before picture to my after. What has helped me keep the weight off for 2.5 years! Would you benefit from that help? I’ve decided to do a mini 4 week challenge for myself. I’ve been really focused on running which is great but for the next month I really want to zone in on strength, logging those miles and nutrition. I’ve set some pretty lofty goals but for me, they are very realistic. I’ll be incorporating #BBG along with a 100 mile challenge and a couple other things. Nutrition will be key in order to get through this month. Looking forward to sharing the next four weeks with you guys!
