THE POWER OF ARTS - What would our life look like without art? I would be drastically different for sure. Art affects our society and even politics way more that we think. It can change opinions, transmit values and experiences across space and time. It can change our mood and the way feel unlike any other forms of entertainments. Since it has so much impact, it is clear that arts represent a good part of our economy. Of course, it helps our economy but it is so much more powerful than that. Arts have the power of bringing people together like no other. Arts are dangerously powerful because it transmits emotions. Not many things can bring together hundreds of thousands of people like music does during concerts. Even in politics, the song Gens du pays, by Gilles Vigneault, brought Quebecers together during the referendum and became the symbol of the movement. People were signing their hearts out in protest and felt a lot more empowered that way. A lot of artists uses art to pass a message that people refuse to hear. A lot of street artists, such as Banksy or Basquiat, uses their art to pass messages, most of the time political. Arts are often used by people to express political opinions, since not everyone as the platform or is in a position to express themselves when it comes to politics. Art has always been something the human race needed to do. Creativity is essential. Emotions are essential. Even cavemen drew on the walls of their caves to express themselves. Art can transmit emotions in a way words could never do. This is why it is essential to our society, even in politics.
