Over these last few years I’ve become passionate about raising awareness for the numerous threats our oceans face. Diving has opened my eyes to what incredible and beautiful ecosystems there are deep beneath the surface, hidden away from most of our daily lives. Fortunately, @natgeo photographers like @paulnicklen have done some amazing work to improve the general public’s perception and understanding of key issues.
Make no mistake, global temperatures are rising, having a direct impact on wildlife migration patterns, sea levels, and weather systems. Pollution has become overwhelming, with islands of garbage and plastic forming in certain areas of the pacific. Illegal fishing is also taking its toll.
I guarantee that when you see a diseased salmon fish farm, a starving withered polar bear searching for ice to hunt on, or a sea turtle trapped within a discarded fishing net, you will appreciate the need for all of us to work together to develop more sustainable, responsible, and ethical practices right now. This simply cannot way any longer, and we’re all in this together. Follow @sea_legacy and @natgeopristineseas to learn more.
