Quality protein matters. One of the issues with conventional meat and poultry is that the animals are fed unnatural diets of GMO soy or corn and pumped full of antibiotics and other toxic chemicals. Those things are then absorbed into our bodies and can create a digestive nightmare.

It doesn’t help that meat labeling and marketing have gotten so complicated, obscure and deceitful so that the public has no idea what is the healthiest and safest choice.

Here’s what to look for when buying quality protein:
🥩 100% grass fed or grass fed & finished beef label. This means that the cow ate a 100% natural diet of grass. You might be surprised to learn that most grass fed beef is grain finished because they gives it a nice fatty marbling. If you buy USDA labeled meat, it’s not grass fed and finished. If you buy local, talk to your butcher or farmer to see how the animal was raised and what it was fed. 🍗 when it comes to poultry you always want to buy organic and pasture raised. Organic labeling means that no toxic pesticides or antibiotics were used and pasture raised means the chickens lives outside in open pastures to forage for their natural diet. 🦐 when it comes to fish and seafood, ALWAYS look for wild caught. Anything that was formed raised was kept in very close quarters, and given antibiotics to prevent the fish from getting sick in a dirty environment. They’re also given an unnatural diet, usually of GMO soy. Unfortunately, toxins can bioaccumulate in our seafood because of contaminated waters and pollution. Eat smaller fish on the food chain like sardines, salmon, etc. and avoid things like shark and swordfish which can carry a bigger toxic load.

Routine

Make September a month to get into a routine. I have this drink almost everyday - it's a staple. It's become my post workout meal and it's a super easy way to get VEGGIES. I'm sure you're sick of seeing this drink, but if you haven't already - add it to your daily routine. Even 3-4x/week would be great!

Also - I'm keto - and am still totally able to stay in ketosis despite the carbs bc the dietary fiber is through the roof. It's possible to do healthy keto - and this gives me fiber, vitamins and electrolytes. No cheese and sausage keto plan here! (Also - you can use full fat coconut milk, add nuts, or add avocado to up the fat).

2-3 cups kale or spinach & kale
1.5 cups coconut milk (unsweetened)
1 Tbl chia seed
