My breakfast of champions: bulletproof coffee, quiche, and avocado!
You'll never see any Wheaties or "breakfast grains" on my plate. This is because grains (whole or processed) cause steep spikes in blood glucose levels that will leave me feeling hungry, tired, and unfocused in a couple hours. Grain sources include bagels, oatmeal, cream of wheat, millet, and buckwheat. A great alternative to oatmeal is chia seed pudding with golden ground flax meal mixed with berries and raw nuts.
Grains are the equivalent of gasoline--fast burning, explosive energy (blood sugar spike) that leaves behind nasty residue in the environment (i.e. your body) in the form of Advanced Glycation End-products. AGEs can wreak havoc on your body via inflammation and oxidative stress which impair cognitive function, learning, and memory in conjunction with making you look older. Yuck!
Instead, my fuel source is primarily solar power (healthy fats) that provide my brain with steady, stable energy throughout the day. Our brains are composed of about 60% fatty acids and we only get fatty acids by eating HEALTHY FAT! In this meal I'm covering all the bases for brain health with mono/polyunsaturated fats in the form of organic eggs that are rich in omega 3's, avocado, extra virgin olive oil, and Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil with grass fed butter in my coffee.
