If you’re serious about living green, you’ve got to start on the inside. 😉 This super-green super-shot is serious. Think of it as warm lemon water meets bulletproof coffee… without the coffee.
Alright, alright. Just try it and see how it makes your body feel. Start with as much green powder as works for you, and adjust as you go. Make it easy for yourself so you stick to it; it’s a great way to wake your system up!

When you think ‘Maca’, do you think ‘iron’? Not the kind where collars and cuffs get smoothed out, but rather the one which helps your body create energy from nutrients. Apparently adults over 19 need 45 mg each day, and 2 tsp of Maca can give you 1.5 mg. So pop it in a smoothie, sprinkle it over breakfast, and make delicious hot (but not too hot) beverages with it.
If you’re looking for ways to up your Maca intake, here’s a simple recipe for tasty Overnight Oats using our Maca Super Smoothie mix, which is conveniently packed with superfood goodies and prepared below 45C so as to keep the nutrients beautifully intact. Try it and let us know what you think. 😊

INGREDIENTS:
• 1 Tbsp o’natural Super Smoothie
• ½ cup oats • 1 tsp baobab powder
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• Sprinkle freshly ground nutmeg
• 1 Tbsp honey
• ½ cup hot (not boiling) water or warm almond milk
Stir together and pop it in the fridge overnight. Top with something yum in the morning and enjoy.

Optional: Splash some almond milk over the oats as you serve.

P.S. If the honey has solidified, dissolve it in hot water before pouring it into oats and stirring.
Topping Suggestions: dates chopped up/ dried apricots, dried cranberries, dessicated coconut/ raspberries, chilled or warmed nut milk.

• 1 apple, peeled and cored
• ¼ small lemon, peeled and pipped

What does maca NOT do, huh? 😉 *VA-VA-VOOM VERY-VITAMIN C SMOOTHIE*
(There are so many Vitamin-C-packed goodies in here!) INGREDIENTS:
• 1 tsp baobab powder (@ecoproductsbaobab) • 2 handfuls blueberries (roughly 1 small punnet) • 1 mandarin, peeled (@ClemenGold is delicious)
• 2-4 dates, according to preferred sweetness
• 1 tsp lucuma (@soaringfreesuperfoods)
• 2 Tbsp o’natural Maca Super Smoothie
• 1 Tbsp goji berries or o’natural Goji Super Smoothie • 4 leaves of kale, thick part of stalks removed
• 1-2 cups water/ half water half almond milk

We know the weather’s weird, but chilly or wonderfully warm, a good ol’ hot beverage ne’er goes amiss. Especially one that’s healthy. #guiltbegone
MALTY MACA HOT DRINK:
Ingredients: • 1 cup cashews + 4 dates soaked 1 hour or more • 5 Tbsp o’natural Cacao Smoothie Mix • 2 Tbsp o’natural Maca Smoothie Mix • 1/8 cup cacao butter pieces • 1/8 cup coconut oil, soft or melted
Blend with 1 to 2 cups water; warm water if you’re going to enjoy it immediately. Or refrigerate the mixture and keep for up to 3 days. It tends to thicken up into something like a concentrate; just add quite-hot water when serving.
Toppings: whipped coconut cream, toasted sesame seeds, desiccated coconut, and raw chocolate (we used @soaringfreesuperfoods’ divine maca chocolate; what a winner!)

Malty flavoured… related to cauliflower… looks a little like a radish… You’ve got to admit; maca is a curious thing. But it has a long list of health benefits, one of them being that it’s packed with micronutrients which help balance hormones in both women and men. When you’re stressed and anxious or have recently been through a trauma, look into adding maca to your diet. The easiest way, in our opinion (and personal experience) is in smoothies. Start small and always keep them flavourful to encourage you to keep at it.

Raw cacao apparently contains more calcium than cow’s milk. Did you know? Also, it is more easily absorbed. In fact, studies show that adding dairy to cacao makes it harder for our bodies to take in and use the awesome anti-oxidants inherent in cacao, a few of which we mentioned in our last post.

The health benefits of food can be rather mind-blowing, and cacao is one of those extra special foods which – when eaten raw – is not only delicious but also life-giving.
Raw cacao contains a strong blast of anti-oxidants which helps reduce bad cholesterol, improve blood circulation, and prevent premature aging.
So chocolate for breakfast it is! As usual.
RECIPE (Serves 2-4):
The Chocolate Fountain of Youth Cacao Smoothie Bowl

INGREDIENTS • 1 small frozen banana
• ¼ avo
• 4 Tbsp cacao smoothie mix
• 1 Tbsp chia
• 1 cup almond milk • 1 cup coconut cream
• Topping suggestions: nibs, o’natural cacao granola crunch, edible flowers…
DIRECTIONS
Blend ingredients, pour into bowls and place in the fridge for 10 minutes to set. Sprinkle with your favourite toppings and eat with a spoon and a smile. .

When they say chocolate is good for you, and even elevates your mood, it sadly isn’t the processed stuff so readily available everywhere you look. Brown and beautiful, from the inside, out.
We’ve put together a superbly delicious chocolate drink to enjoy warm or cold, and put other immune-boosting ingredients in to keep the cacao company. Did you know dates, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cayenne pepper, almonds and coconut milk all support your immune system’s awesome work?
So, then. How about a double-chocolate smoothie, lightly spiced? • 3 Tbsp o’natural Cacao Super Smoothie • 1 frozen banana • 2 Tbsp cacao nibs • 4 dates • 1 tsp cinnamon • ¼ tsp ginger powder • ¼ tsp nutmeg, freshly grated if you can • A pinch of cayenne pepper • 2 cups almond/ coconut milk
Blend until smooth. If you’d like it warm, heat it gently on the stove just until it’s the perfect drinking temperature for you. Remember, too hot and you may compromise those beautiful vitamins and minerals!

We gave her some of our Goji Super Smoothie mix to play with, and are delighted with her delicious immune-boosting creation. Try it at home and step into winter, grinning!
GOJUNGLE SMOOTHIE
Recipe by Joy of Faith Juice
Serves 1-2

INGREDIENTS:
¼ pineapple, cored
1 orange
1 banana
5 strawberries
200ml cold green tea
50ml milk kefir
2 tsp o’natural Goji Super Smoothie mix
DIRECTIONS:
Juice the pineapple and orange. (If you don’t have a juicer, use the fruit as-is and enjoy a pulpy smoothie.)
Pour into a blender along with the rest of the ingredients and blend.
Serve with fresh fruit as garnish and a reusable straw.

Continuing on the immune-boosting goji thread from our last post, we put together a warm smoothie mug with a little bit of everything immune-boosting we could find. They turned out mightily pleasing and rather moreish! A lovely way to keep the bugs at bay. Yay.
Enjoy on a chilly morn’.
WARM SPICED ORANGE & GOJI IMMUNE-BOOSTING SMOOTHIE MUGS:
Ingredients:
· 1 Carmien Blissful Blackcurrant teabag (or rooibos)
· 1 Tbsp honey
· 1 Tbsp coconut oil
· 3 Tbsp o’natural Goji Super Smoothie mix
· Zest of ½ an orange · Juice of an orange
· 1x1 cm fresh ginger, peeled and chopped up
· 2 Tbsp pomegranate seeds . 1 Tbsp baobab powder
1. In a mug, pour hot water over the teabag.
2. Stir the honey and coconut oil into the tea to melt, and set aside to steep.
3. Into a blender jug, put the Goji Super Smoothie, orange zest, orange juice, ginger, pomegranate seeds, and baobab powder.
4. When the tea is still very warm (but not hot-hot), remove the teabag and pour into the blender. Blend on high speed until smooth.
5. Enjoy warm!

Despite knowing that working long hours without rest, feeling mentally (and therefore physically) stressed out for extended periods of time, and eating and drinking unhealthy foods to keep us going has a direct link to our immune system’s health, we keep at it.
And complain when our bodies shout ‘Man down!’ at us and unceremoniously drop us into bed with a box of tissues and yucky nasal spray.
Looking after your mental and physical wellbeing is important; you need to eke
out time just for you if you want to stay upright and smiling. So boost your immune system with healthy food, and make sure it tastes GOOD.
Maca is a great place to start. It’s an adaptogen, meaning it helps balance hormones in your body which help you adapt to stress. Not an excuse to stay in stressful situations, but definitely a way to help you feel you can cope. And perhaps if you’re feeling healthier and happier, you’ll be able to figure out how to make a change or two in order to live a happier life. 😊

Tasty. But these did NOT work out as planned.
Um, okay. We didn’t precisely follow the recipe. Thought we could get away with not boiling the buckwheat (to keep the lovely nutrition intact) and didn’t drain them properly (not wanting to waste the almond milk). So they’re rather soft, and we’re enjoying them with a spoon. Haha.
Perhaps a bit of your collective advice could get these brownies to a better state! Thinking of putting them back into the food processor and adding dates or gojis or chia to thicken them up a bit. What do you think?
