In recent months I've been dabbling with watercolor. It's not something I used to care for much, but it is really growing on me! These stylized watercolor portraits are quickly gaining momentum and I'm kinda in love with the quirkiness of it all. They're fun. Different. Not stuffy. And overall they just make me happy to paint. The top portrait was commissioned for a wedding here in town and the bottom portrait is headed to Germany or Bust! As always, when working on a portrait, I reference the photograph provided to me (by you) and work directly from the screen of my laptop.
I was asked to create a second butterfly painting to pair with the previous one I did. I always feel so uncertain when I paint this way. I ask myself if it really does look like it is finished? I always am drawn towards adding more detail. So I stop and I wait a couple days and usually I come to the conclusion that it looks really good. #readytoframe#watercolor#watercolorbutterfly#butterfly#butterflypainting
The cloud and land pieces all got finished, ironed, matted, framed and delivered to the Alberta Craft Council shop in Edmonton.
Except one ... because the frame was cut 1" too big. It's fixed, so that one is going over today.
A little Before and After action.
11x14 graphite on matte board.
I've got some exciting news that I can't wait to be able to share with you in the next week or so...
I've been busy mounting up prints today. .
I really love how they look in a mount. It sets them off so perfectly and it makes it super easy, as all you have to do is pick a lovely frame and pop it straight in, ready to hang on your wall.

Gladiola Fields 9x12 Acrylic on linen canvas paper. Thank you guys for all of your wonderful feedback regarding my last post- the poll of your favorite color palette. With your answers in mind, I knew exactly what I wanted to create next and thought it would be fun to combine all of the colors.
I grew up less than 10 miles away from a gladiola farm. This flower is still one of my favorites today and I think it’s because it always reminds me of home. Have a wonderful day, everyone.
