Food is not something to be ashamed about. Food is not something to obstain from, for any reason. Food is food. Food is energy. Everything, at it's core, is energy. Energy is not inherently good, or bad. As humans, we label things as good or bad depending on our perspectives and experiences with them. Why do we label food this way? Why do we label ANYTHING this way?
It all comes down to one thing; the ego.
The ego ties us to the physical realm- our bodies. The ego is vital to human survival; but at the same time it is important to realize when the ego is talking, and how it affects our perspective of reality. Like with food. Food is neither good, or bad. Food is energy. We are energy. Remember this. πŸ’›

There are many reasons why someone may have shoulder pain, therefore it is important to understand where your shoulder pain is stemming from. The only way you will start getting better is by understanding and learning about your own body. Below are some of the major reasons why your shoulder may hurt.

1. Muscular Imbalance/Posture - This is when one muscle group dominates over another muscle group. For example your flexor group vs your extensor group. If your workout routine focuses on chest and abs primarily in the extent of your posterior chain your shoulders will be pulled forward in a rounded position therefore positioning your shoulder joint in an unfavourable position
2. Motor Control - Consists of stability, balance, postural control, coordination and perception. Are you present and your mind focus at the task at hand? How's your technique and are you engaging the correct muscles in an efficient manner? How often do we see someone doing hundreds and hundreds of push-ups in an incorrect manner or just rushing through a workout. Eventually they get injured πŸ€• and wonder why. Skill work is important.
3. Nerves - There are a network of nerves called the brachial plexus that originatesfrom your neck and runs down your shoulder and arm. If anyone of these nerves are compressed it will cause pain such as burning or stinging sensations. Weakness in the shoulder and arm may also exist coupled with neck pain.
4. Load/Capacity - Is the load you are working with greater then your capacity? If you can only bench 30 pounds but you consistently push heavier then you are capable of other muscles will kick in to compensate which will eventually lead you to injury or pain in the shoulder.

5. Injury - Shoulder dislocations, rotator cuff tears, tendonitis, SLAP tear, AC Joint separation etc... depending on the severity sometimes surgery is required, but majority can gradually get better through proper rehab.

From my days of being obese I never used to care about eating habits, eating enough protein, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep. Where now as a PT Coach, I live and breath health & fitness. So the problem I have and it's something I've struggled with the last couple of years, is learning when is the time to actually give your body a rest. But I am definitely getting better.

I train 5 times a week and I'm extremely active every day, so my body rarely gets the chance to rest. It's now while on holiday I need to allow my body a chance to recharge and recover and I know it will thank me for when I get back to my hectic, active life again.

Moral of this is listen to your body. If you have not stopped for a long period of time and you've body is telling you to rest, then rest! Even though it's hard to rest sometimes, in the long run it will be so beneficial for your body and mind.
