🦄One thing I have learned as I have gotten older is the importance of recovery. My body needs and thrives on recovery.
-
🏋️️‍♀️I used to workout 6-7 days a week, thinking not only did I not need recovery, but that if I took time to recover, I would lose everything I had gained up to that point.
-
⛳️Recovery and rest is where the magic in our fitness journeys truly happens -
🤸🏼‍♀️After being injured, and really just getting educated over many many years, I now embrace (and dare I say love) my recovery days. Recovery days can take on many different looks:
-
➡️ Rest - Literally just rest. I actually do this a lot. -
➡️ Active Recovery - Walking, Yoga, Easy bike ride, a short run - anything where you are moving but not going at it 110%. Enough to feel like you are “doing something” if the thought of completely resting isn’t going to work for you right now (I used to be here)
-
➡️ Mobility Work - A great option for not only workout days, but for recovery days. It will become critical as you get older, so start now!
-
➡️ Myofascial Release - Another thing I am doing more now. Foam Rolling, or using the most amazing piece of equipment I carry in my bag, the acumobility ball. -
➡️ Quality Sleep - Don’t ever underestimate the power of quality of sleep. Quantity of sleep is important, but quality is even more important. Everything will feel better.

➡️ Hot bath/shower - Nothing feels quite as good as a hot bath (with a bath bomb of course), or a hot shower. Can help loosen everything up and it feels amazing

👑Remember, As you train, you are basically tearing up your muscles, and they need time to repair themselves - that’s how you are going to get stronger. Give them a fighting chance and watch the gains happen

Vacation week in Maine. The view from our kitchen this week is a diary pasture and some greenhouses. Not a bad view to wake up to at all. Much relaxing, eating, and more eating to take place. I’ve killed a lot of plants both literally and figuratively. Spike, my aloe plant keeps it real though. So does his succulent friend, Dino. Getting back into plants has been one of those things on my checklist that I just couldn’t hack while drinking and active in bulimia. Growth in all forms with freedom from both.
