First biopic that I actually endorse without hesitation, wither you’re a fan of Queen or simply not invested in anything 80’s, this movie is just perfect for you.
It follows the origin story of the amazing rock band Queen, and shows some intricate details about the lead singer Freddy Mercury, his struggles, passions, and creative spirit.
Not only Rami Malek crushed it, the dude was literally possessed by Freddy’s spirit (according to the original band remarks), his perfect delivery to the emotional state of the character was, indeed, uncanny.. As a person with great intensity towards the anything creative, I found myself literally gasping for air when I saw how the band created their greatest hits! Their dynamic interactions, strong-independent personalities, and how attentive they are to every little detail, it made the whole process almost spiritual.
I honestly think, this is possibly the best biopic that I’ve seen in a very long time, Oscar worthy indeed... it’s subtleness, theatrical moments, and how passionate everything seemed, made almost everyone at the movies emotionally invested.
The color palette was on point, music was perfect, and the overall direction looked effortless, almost as if everyone involved wanted this to look as real as it can be in that era!
For me, the climax was at “live aid”; that scene was absolutely incredible, it would definitely bring tears to your eyes if you’re not careful, not because of how things are conducted, but because of that surge of energy running through your entire body knowing that for a brief moment, Freddy was alive and well, doing his magic!
Well done Rami Malek, I’m sure many Arabs are proud of your performance! I know I am.
