Growing up a N.C. State fan (I know, I know...) I was able to rectify a personal wrong by finally playing @lpgcncstate! This was the second course on my trip, and the biggest/best surprise of the whole trip was just how good the golf is at Lonnie Poole! Conditions were perfect (nice blend of green/brown, fast and firm!) and the company of @friarsgolfclub and @matthewalawless was pretty great as well!
Hole 1 (pic 1-3) is a dogleg right par 5 which is reachable from the 6500 yard tees. I hit probably my best shot of the day (on a day where so shot 72) on the approach here as I hit a low cutting hybrid that ran perfectly up the shoot on the left taking the slope to about 10 feet from the hole (missed the eagle🤦♂️).
Hole 2 (pic 4) is a long par 3 with a crazy green that has two shelves with the back one actually being lower than the front meaning that you still have to be in control of the longer club you are hitting or you could have a LONG putt!
Hole 3 (pics 5-7) is an interesting par 5 that really makes you think on the 2nd shot. Not long at all, but the approach is so severe, it’s hard to pull the trigger and go for it. You can see from the pics that missing left makes for a very hard up and down. 🔴⚪️🔴
Hole 4 (pics 8-9) is a drivable par 4 as it plays down hill but trouble lurks on both sides of the hole, and the fairway has a narrow ridge running down the middle the moves balls away from the center of the fairway depending on which side of it you hit. The play is a 200-220 yard low runner than takes the left slope down to a flat area about 80-90 yards short of the green. Good risk/reward hole!
