How big is your network? Do you actively look to expand your network and make better connections? It’s so important to surround yourself with the type of people who pull you up, not down. If you’re feeling burnt out, overworked, under paid, under valued, and just plain uninspired it’s time to get networking and flip the script! How does networking help with this? Have you ever heard someone you greatly look up to, a successful leader, say that they could never be where they are without the team of people behind them and all of the mentors that guided the way for them? Networking is a must in business, and really, in life in general. If you’re looking to climb the ladder, switch careers, run a business, or find your tribe (#girlsnight), you have to get comfortable with networking! The good news is there are so many amazing online communities you can be a part of where you can digitally network anytime! Want to really see the power of networking in your life? Attend a networking event once a month, strike up conversations online as often as possible, and try to schedule a FaceTime or phone call once a week with someone new. Find trailblazers in your industry and ask them how they got to where they are. Find people who aren’t in your industry at all and gain outside perspective. Don’t be afraid to ask people the questions you want answered and always always always be open to share your area of expertise with others! You can be both a mentee and a mentor. Networking is a two way street. Ask what you can do for others and what they are needing help with- see if there’s some kind of knowledge exchange you can offer. Sure, you can get another degree or shift through hours of online webinars but you know what else might help that problem you’re looking to solve?- Hearing and learning from someone who’s been there before! Sometimes the abbreviated version is best! (Talk about saving time & money). Here’s to networking! 🥂👋🏽🤝

If I have a client who purchases canned veggies over fresh because of the price—I’m happy that they’re including vegetables in their routine! 🙌🏻 •

I think it’s important to meet people where they are and have perspective in life. At times, it’s an absolute privilege to follow a fancy #cleaneating , #paleo , #whole30 , #keto , and whatever the heck other fad diet. And I often feel there is a lot of judgement towards people who do eat processed foods (even though we all literally do!!) •

Beach day full speed! Tourist season in San Diego is no joke, we live five minutes from the beach and it took us an hour to find parking. And, that’s OK - it is no one’s beach it is everyone’s beach! Back from vacation and almost back to my normal routine 😊 what helps coming home after vacation is a big farmers market haul and a grocery store visit to restock the goods. 🙌🏼 We left for vacation with a very empty fridge which made me very happy to fill it all back up this weekend!

First night of cooking back in my kitchen: a noodle stir-fry situation with shrimp, snap peas, & Thai basil. Loved how this dish came together—I adapted it from something I flipped to in a cookbook this afternoon (Dinner Changing The Game by @clarkbar). And I guess you could say I was feeling spicy tonight because I didn’t hesitate chopping up a whole huge jalapeño and finishing with a drizzle of sriracha 😬💃🏻

This honey mustard roasted salmon is always a winner! It’s also one of the easiest and quickest recipes in my repertoire, while the salmon is roasting you can make your sides and dinner is on the table in less than 30 min🙌🏼 Here’s the recipe (serves 4): 1.5 lb salmon (4-6oz portions)
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
2 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp white wine vinegar
1 Tbsp water
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp dry mustard
2 tsp fresh dill
Salt & pepper

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray shallow baking dish with nonstick spray.

Mix together mustard, honey, vinegar, water, dry mustard, and garlic. Set aside 2 Tbsp.

Season salmon with salt and pepper and brush with 2 Tbsp of reserved honey mustard. Bake for 20-25 min.

Add dill to remaining honey mustard and pour over salmon before serving.

Sharing our meal plan for the week ahead! This is where I usually plan our meals, in the notes section on my phone📱. From there I make a list of what we need for the week on the same document, I always have my phone with me when I head to the store so this prevents me from leaving the list on the counter at home, which is usually (always) what happens when I make the list on paper. Making a list helps you stick to a budget and also helps plan for different ways to use items to prevent food waste!Anyone else have their meals planned for the week yet? What do you do when building your own salads? One little trick I do is copy some of my favorite restaurant salads! It’s really as simple as just making sure you have a great selection of toppings ready to go 🥗 And take advantage of time saving shortcuts like buying eggs already hard-boiled and peeled 🙌 And with a quality homemade dressing (or store bought version like @chosenfoods or @primalkitchenfoods ) you’ll have great flavor without unnecessary sodium and preservatives 👍

Today I made a ton of premade foods so I can just wake up or come home and have meals ready. This Turkey Sausage Sweet Potato + Veggie Egg Bake was one of them🍳 it’s a good way to use up those veggies in the fridge and tastes delicious too😋 I put the recipe on my stories. It was a “train low” ➡️ train with low carb. Why? For training adaptations in the muscle. I definitely do NOT race “low carb.” But if someone’s telling you to eat high carb all the time to support your training...well, then unfortunately they don’t understand how training periodization (and carb periodization) works and the indirect performance benefits of low carb that’s periodized appropriately.

I recently was able to BROWSE at some of my favorite grocery stores. This favorite pastime has gone to the wayside since having a child 3 years ago. I was able to take my time and actually discover new to me products. It was glorious! Much needed as I’ve been stuck in a food rut. While I LOVE Kroger clicklist and being able to order my groceries online, it typically leads to me ordering the same items every week. It was lovely to discover new food products and actually like them!

Natures path Golden Tumeric cereal- Tumeric has been all the rage these days as a go to spice known for it’s anti-inflammatory properties. This cereal is definitely warming and has a slight kick from the ginger and black pepper. Not your normal cereal ingredients. Black pepper helps to enhance the bioavailability of curcumin. Tasty!

Trader Joe’s Seasoned kale chips-surprisingly delicious! Pressed with cashew butter and tahini. Most kale chips I have tried are very heavy on the seasoning. These are well balanced and not over-flavored. Another win for my car snacks. *

Hilary’s worlds best veggie burger-Gluten, corn, dairy, egg, soy and nut FREE which basically hits all of the major allergens but tastes good! Made with Millet and Quinoa, with some veggies thrown in. Now a part of my daily rotation, definitely check this brand out!

Foodies Artichokes burger- made with artichoke hearts and cashews, this has a sweet and nutty taste. Vegan, gluten and soy free. Yummy!

Should you try to totally avoid sugar? 🍬
Like pretty much all answers in nutrition, it’s not a simple yes or no. 🤔
First of all, our bodies generally run off sugar. We convert our foods to glucose, a simple sugar that we use as fuel for our muscles, brain, organs, everything. This doesn’t mean you can just down sugar packets though. It is still important to choose nutrient dense foods for essentials like vitamins, minerals, fiber, and protein. 🍓
That said, it doesn’t mean there is no room for foods with added sugars. Even in a ‘healthy diet’ there is a place for these less nutritious foods. When it comes to fueling activity, sugar can play a beneficial role. 🏃🏾‍♂️⚽️⛷️🎾🏊🏾‍♂️🏀🤸🏽‍♂️🏈🏋🏾‍♀️⚾️
Simple sugars in food take less time to break down in the body, meaning you can get faster energy to muscles to perform. This also is helpful when you want quick recovery from training. Including foods with simple or some added sugars post workout means you can replenish your glycogen (muscle energy stores) quicker to be ready for your next training session.
This can be especially important if you have multiple training sessions in one day. 🚴🏾‍♂️

My clients always tell me they’re not restricting because they are not skipping meals/snacks or under-portioning. And then I ask them if during those times, the food police is ever saying “you shouldn’t be eating this right now…”, “take a smaller portion next time”, “try to leave a bit on your plate”, “no more after this one”...that’s also restriction, just not physical. Be on the look out!!! Cognitive restriction is just as sneaky as physical restriction, and can set us up from the restrict/binge cycle.

No Sunday scaries here ✌🏼 Today was overcast, so we popped into town to check out some shops and waited in line for the most delicious Chillmark Chocolates 🍫 Also had the best afternoon yoga sesh led by @arrowandflow 🧘🏼‍♀️ Nothing better than flowing to the sound of the ocean and birds chirping! We continued Grandma’s birthday #celebration by attending a #cooking demonstration put on by the #Publix #ApronsCookingSchool in #Tampa. The chefs show you how to prepare each course and you get to eat it as well as enjoy a glass of wine they paired with it.

The 1st course was porcini dusted sea #scallops with sweet pepper relish and Farro #risotto paired with a #SauvignonBlanc. The scallops were cooked perfectly, the pepper relish was amazing, and the risotto was so rich. 🍽️
The 2nd course was roasted tomato #bisque with basil crema and candied #prosciutto paired with #Chardonnay. This tastes your boring tomato soup up a notch and I can use my immersion blender to make it!

The 3rd course was a spice rubbed #pork #tenderloin with cauliflower purée and braised red onions and mushrooms paired with #CabernetSauvignon. The pork was so tender and juicy and the #veggies were bursting with #flavor. 🍽️
The 4th course was a mixed #berry #brie en croute paired with #PinotNoir. The little pastries were the perfect ending to such a great meal, not too heavy. 🍽️
They also provided a Welcome #Rosé to start the evening. Overall an amazing event and we look forward to attending future classes 🍽️

SportsCenter had ended so SEC Rewind was the program of choice. 💪 I spy a #romaromiller and a #deucemcallister and a lil bit of ole Jackie. Coming back for a win in 4th quarter. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Yes, I love football! Yes, I watch sports while I workout. Do you ever just watch the athletic body move? I listen to music and leave the tv on silent. Watching all sports and all movements of the human body fascinates me! The strength. The perseverance. The agility. I could go on and on. I find myself pushing along and going faster when they run, dodge, push, and roll. My ole body doesn’t move like it used to, but I do know one thing.... it does still work because I really do try and take care of it. Homemade chicken, veggie and black bean enchiladas topped with homemade sauce and mozzarella 😍😍 Served with homemade guacamole, 0% fat Greek yoghurt/ sour cream and baked potato wedges in their skins 😋 (the skins contain more fibre).
A lot of pre-made meals/sauces can be high in sugar, salt and saturated fat. Cooking meals from scratch is a good way of choosing the ingredients in your meals and altering the flavour of your food. If you are buying a ready made meal/sauce remember to check the label and choose options lower in salt/sugar/saturated fat.
When cooking meals ✅use olive/rapeseed/vegetable oil instead of butter ✅use herbs and spices to flavour food rather than salt ✅grill/bake foods where possible instead of frying ✅remove visible fat from meat/choose leaner options ✅ Bulking out meals with veggies/beans can help you achieve the #5aday target, or more, and add extra fibre to your meal 💩
• ENCHILADA SAUCE:
Onion
Garlic
A shake of cumin, black pepper, oregano and paprika
1/2 a stock cube (optional)
Tomato purée
Tinned plum tomatoes
Whizz through the blender once cooked and make your enchiladas
• GUACAMOLE:
Blend together avocado, low fat natural yoghurt, onion, jalapeños and lime juice.

Homemade granola 😍
• Granola - a mix of baked oats, desiccated coconut, almonds, pecans and a little honey with baked apple and cinnamon (complex carbohydrate from the oats 🌾 with protein and some unsaturated fats from the nuts)
• 0% fat Greek yoghurt (dairy products are an excellent source of calcium, which is vital for the health of our bones and teeth along with many other body functions)
• Berries 🍓🍒🍇 (getting closer to #5aday)
• Peanut butter (100% nuts - read food labels as some nut butters contain palm oil and/or sugar and salt)

So good getting a long walk followed by a swim 🐠👟 You don’t have to join a gym to be active and it doesn’t have to be boring - find something you love 💜
