Morphia Transformation. There’s an interesting catharsis in the process of renewal. We take the hard life experiences, disassemble them, and build those pieces into something new. For two years I lived in Venice, Ca in a small converted living room. It was intended to be temporary, but time dragged on. To top it off, the Appartment-mate was a pathological liar that didn’t want me playing my quiet acoustic arpeggios because he didn’t want to disturb the neighbors...but then would play loud amplified base at 4am. I made the best of it and built fortresses out of wood within my tiny live work studio. Everything had a home to avoid chaos...even the hot sauce. It looked like something out of a treehouse fantasy. Two years of building and rebuilding shelves, levels, layers. After leaving, I put things things in storage. The wood I built these outdoor furnitures out of was once part of my fortress over two years ago, minus a few pieces. Even the screws, chair, and brackets are reused. The furniture isnt’ fancy, but they have new purpose and amazing views. The metaphors of the wood being in both storage and memory for two years, disassembling the past, and building something new is true in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Sometimes the past is just pieces for a rearranged future to come.
