11 Days until #RepTourChicago & my #SnakeCane is finished!
I have #EhlersDanlosSyndrome and am disabled. I am semi-ambulatory meaning I get around with the use of a mobility aid. For some of us it is a walker, arm crutches or a wheelchair. All of which I have used when needed but right now and for @taylorswift concert you'll see me with this cane (except for when I am being taken to section 104 via wheelchair because walking far distances can be difficult for me). At first it was really hard to use a cane. The looks from people.... people asking if I injured myself and when I could stop using my cane. But I welcomed those who asked questions so I could educate them and raise more awareness.
I have both vascular and hypermobile involvement with my EDS. EDS is a genetic defect that causes defective collagen. Simply put collagen is the glue that holds our bodies together. My hips, ankles, shoulders, ribs and more all slide around, sublux and some fully become dislocated. I use the cane for stability. Without my cane I tend to fall quite a bit. It helps me to catch myself when my joints are wonky.
I knew I wanted to do something extra special for my cane this year so I made it into a #snake cane!
May is #MayEDSAwareness month! As many others do with their state I got a proclamation from Illinois governor to officially make it #MayEDS in the state of Illinois. You can search the tag across social media or simply ask me any questions in the comments. I am an open book.
This will also make me easy to find. Come find me..come get a hug, a photo & I am also bringing some free bracelets for fellow #Swifties
